I opened a 5.2 Magnum and compared the lifter gallery to my roller 318.

The lifters look the same and the retention spider looks identical.

Are the pushrods the same length?

Can I just swap the Magnum lifters and pushrods into the LA and get oil-through for use with Magnum heads?

Are the lifters even different?

Related- 86 318 roller book specs at ~9.2:1

What will the Mag heads do to that?

Aren't they 8.8:1?

TX all

difference in lifter is or was...LA did not oil thru pushrod ...Magnum did...but now the replacement hydraulic roller lifters are magnums even for the LA engine...just use a non oil thru pushrod for LA head.

as for pushrod length ...look at replacement pushrod respectfully for each year of engine and see if they are the same length...but magnum will have oiling holes..LA will not

Thanks guys.

Trying to explore my low or zero cost options for future possibilities.

I have a good running LA roller and a Magnum 5.9 with at least one spun bearing.

If I can get away with only buying a Magnum bolt carb intake and nothing else and end up with a roller motor with a better cam (thanks to the 1.6 rockers) and better flow (thanks to the heads) It sounds like an easy win.

I wonder what the deck/piston height difference is between the two.

I have a head CC chart to compare Mags vs 302s.
