Ya it is quite amazing that something so simple works so well. One thing I noticed with that car is all adjustments have a starting point. Your next adjustment depends on the last. And there is a lot of “feel” in the adjustments. Once experience is gained it becomes really easy to work on.And they keep going and going like the Energizer Bunny
Thanks Mark.Congrats Grandpa!! This is starting to be old hat lol. Glad everyone is doing well.
BTW put your breakfast on my tab.
I agree I love working on my old truck but the first time took some time to figure it out but I have lots of book on tuning it.Clean and reset the zenith carb on the model A yesterday that took 15 mins. Ok 20 min. Touched the points with a file reset them went through the timing procedures 35 minutes. Turned ignition on pulled choke pushed starter switch on floor viola runs like a top. A lot different than the first time I set the timing that took about 4 hrs to figure out. There’s a lot of “feel” to be able to get it just right. Cool engineering simple and complicated at same it.
Myself also have a lot of books. But as you would know they can’t teach you the “feel” like setting the cam under the points ya you can get it to run but can you get it to run strong. 2 to 5 degrees isn’t much when setting the point cam. Hold an tighten takes practice.I agree I love working on my old truck but the first time took some time to figure it out but I have lots of book on tuning it.
Not real good at setting the point cam but I got it pretty close but it did take a few tries.Myself also have a lot of books. Mine probably makes 100 miles. Would like to drive it more but have to find 600 extra bucks for safety glass can’t safely it with out and Mark tells me it’s dangerous to drive it with the original plate glass. The key phrase is extra as if you ever have an extra $600. So until then I’ll be satisfied taking the wife to the small river 8 miles by gravel rd from here and have a picnic maybe some fishing and what not the what not is the best part. Not real good at setting the point cam but I got it pretty close but it did take a few tries.
The truck is lucky if it gets 20 miles a year on it.
Same here on gravel and to the lake but the what not never happens.Mine probably makes 100 miles.
