I am leaking a little bit of oil. I thought I had found it to be loose bolts around one corner of the oil pan but after tightening them then taking for a drive I have a bit of oil still. Looking further up I can see the oil filter mounting point. Other then the oil filter which is new is there anything up there that could be leaking?

either the head gasket or the tube seals...

they always leak lol...

my last head gasket didn't leak when i sprayed them with copper...

I don't think its coming from the head or the spark plug tubes because I just had the head rebuilt and the tubes were replaced. Is it possibly leaking from the oil filter mounting point? Is there a gasket other then the rubber one on the oil filter?

there is the seal for the oil filter, an o ring on the oil pump top, and a seal between the block and the pump...

and then the sending unit

805moparkid do you think its possible there is a leak coming from one of those 45 year old seals?

spray and wipe down the whole area with brake clean....

then run it for 5 minutes... shut it off and start feeling around... if you can find anything run it for another 5 mins... if still nothing drive around for a bit then check...

Mine seems to always leak at the rear of the valve cover.
Other places to check is the oil pressure sending unit, oil pump cover plate, and even the distributor. Even the fuel pump and the timing cover leaking can get oil all of the way back to the passenger rear corner...

X2.....oil leaks can migrate from all kinds of sources.

I ordered the gaskets for the oil pump. I had a feeling it was coming from there just didnt know where it could have been coming from. I can follow it up to that area but it becomes muddled once there so I was not confident. We will see what happens once I replace the gaskets. Do I also need to drain the oil first?

In 35 years I've never had a slant 6 that didn't leak, even when totally rebuilt. Get used to it, oil is cheap (sorta). Good luck to you.

Just hoping for a bit less of a leak. Its not real bad but enough that I want to try and deal with it.

so instead of cleaning it and making sure you know whats leaking... your gonna take the time and hassle (big PITA) to replace the seal between and block??

I am going to clean and verify the leak. I have actually worked my way up to that point. I had cleaned the bell housing and around the corner of the oil pan where I had initially thought it was leaking. While I was under there I saw some oil further up towards the oil filter but I honestly told myself that the oil was probably from the last oil change. I did not want to believe it was coming from there. I have also looked at the area from the top of the motor around the head and the plug tubes and I am not seeing any oil there.

All that brought me here to ask if there was anything in between that could leak. Which was my initial question and you answered with what I was hoping wasn't going to be the issue.

I realize it sounds like I am just wasting time but I have done the elimination mostly. More of process of elimination.

ok im sorry i jumped the gun on you then... its just there are 4 places on the pump that can leak... and if you think its the one between the block and pump you in for a treat getting it out in the car...

usually the o ring for the cover finally cracks but you never know...

I ordered both the one from the block to the pump and the o ring. Maybe with luck it will be the o ring. Truthfully the two gaskets were 5 dollars I figured instead of taking the cuda down for a few days or more to wait on them I would order them and have them if I need em.

Clean it,dry it, and then put toilet paper all over it. That will show fast. Then use the toilet paper, when you realize what a pain this leak will be, lol.
