Left or Right of TDC

Got a 69 340 with stock damper with timing mark, and the built in stock little timing mark gauge on the timing cover. It has 10* each side of 0 TDC. Dumb question, is left of TDC Before TDC or is Right of TDC Before? Clockwise retard, Counter Advance correct. Thanks

This goes for any engine...

Determin the direction of rotation of the crank.

As the mark on the crank rotates toward the TDC mark that would be BTDC (advanced).

Looking over the passenger fender, the 10 mark that is below the zero would be 10 advanced

Or just rotate it. The marks that "come up" first are before/ advanced
