Legendary 66 barracuda seats questions

I have purchased both front and rear vinyl for my 66 Plymouth Barracuda from Legendary a few years back and set them aside for. I had a set of seat foam pieces for the front seats that were sold by PUI since I did not see the foam on the legendary site.

Now I see the foam listed as 66/67 a/ b seat foam. As well as the horseshoe shape pieces listed separately for the barracuda seats. I want to confirm that both of these items are required. And that the seat foam set is not the exact set I already have repackaged. I hear that there has been some dissatisfaction with the PUI seat foam.

I searched through the Legendary YouTube instruction vids and find that the 66/67 barracuda is not represented. Up to 65 and 68 and newer…This makes me ask what the differences would be… from , say like the 65 dart or satellite vid? Or the 68 and later.

I am fairly confidant in my abilities to handle this but the omission of these years gives me pause.

I will continue to prep and paint the frames while I wait form confirmation from the manufacture/venders... and BETTER YET, the customers and knowledgeable peers of this venerated forum!
 
I've purchased the LEGENDARY set for my 66 Barracuda & 66 Coronet. I started the Coronet seats myself and I was sure that the foam was wrong. As it turns out...I just suck at this. It would seem to be a manageable project, but there's more skill to this than I anticipated. I found a local auto interior and he fixed them right up. Seat foam from Legendary or PUI is expensive, but a good upholstery guy can build up weak or thin spots in the foam and save you big bucks. My guy did the Barracuda seats for $300, fixing the foam and installing the Legendary covers that I provided....well worth it.

Another note: Legendary supplies are the best and worth a few bucks more. I cheaped out and bought a headliner from a competitor and it could not line up. It is in and looks good, but it was a fight

The foam in my donor seats are just a pile of crumble and dust so I am stuck with the complete replacement. My quotes to install the supplied covers was almost that much for each seat.
 
There's a reason for the cost, it's not just foam in there. I'm not saying that you can't do it yourself, many do. Speaking for myself, I'd rather work on things that require screwdrivers and wrenches, as upholstering is more art (and patience).

The foam always needs to be trimmed, or built up around the perimeter. An electric carving knife works wonders when you’re doing foam cutting!

is that the difference from 64/65 to the 66 seats, the horseshoe shaped build up area around the insert?

I think they all need a little buildup around the outside, but there are a lot of differences in the 64/5 seats and the 66/7.

66/7 have hard metal backs and metal trim around the bottom of the lower bun, the adjuster lever pokes out thru a slot in the trim, the 64/5 lever bends under the side of the seat. The tracks are different, the 66/67 has a riser on the tracks to raise them up higher to clear the console a little better. The 64/5 has a cardboard and carpet covered back that screws to the back of the seat, where the cover comes down about 1/3 of the way. Yes, the buns are not as thick as the 66/7, and the width difference as well!
 
only thing I can tell you if your putting on the skins is to turn them inside out and put them on like a condom. Youll never get the corners right if you try and put them on like a pair of pants.

I've done other seats in the past, although different makes. Just still amazed at the amount of times there is this black hole of 66 information and availability. So many one year only items.
 
Did you end up needing the horseshoe foam? I am about to place an order and I want to make sure I have all I need. Thanks

I bought it... but if you have a foam shop or fabric store it might be worth it to see what hi density foam they have... I can get more picks and measurements tomorrow.
I believe the seat covers work ok without the extra bolster foam but it does not fill out the edges and wrinkles a little.
 
Extra foam is 1 inch thick 23x25 square with an 11 inch piece out of the center 17 inches tall. All four are the same and cutting and forming to fit your covers is a bit of a chore.

We use dry cleaner bags over the foam to help slide the covers on. (I"m talking huge honking 60's lincoln continental seats) sometimes the bucket seats are just as hard to line up but a lot easier to flip around and "masage" into shape.

You have to ask yourself, "Do you find raised bolsters to be comfortable?" If not, does what others see matter more than your own comfort?
Without the added bolster foam a bucket seat will be almost as flat as the bench seat. That is my personal preference. I find the tall bolsters confining. So my 67 B'cuda buckets, Legendary buns and skins of about 8 years ago, didn't get any added foam.
