To preface, I'm a huge NCAA fan, I hate everything about the NFL, I don't follow or rep any teams, but I will watch it if I'm at a bar of something.
I'm from Pittsburgh, and unbiasedly, I can say Pittsburgh has some of the worst fans I have ever seen. There is a bar in downtown Oakland that plays all the NHL games no matter the team so I'm walking around in college town in Bruins gear because I was going to see that. The game didn't start for an hour or two so I hopped into another sports bar and watched the Bengals vs Steelers.
We started off strong with someone bringing up the Thornton Vs Orpik / Marchand Vs Neal incident, and it's so conveniant how they forget that Neal got charged for skating toward Marchand to knee him in the head. The game was heated, I don't condone what Thornton did, but damn. They knee'd a player in the head and didn't expect backlash? I got into the verbal argument about it and ended up getting beer thrown on my new Winter Classic Jersey.
So I go and dry it off and that guy gets kicked out. I'm watching the bengals game and see the most ridiculous Helmet-to-helmet collision, everything was there, Ryan Shazier leads into the tackle, head first. Collides to jaw of Giovani Bernard and proceeds to follow through the tackle colliding once more. 100% illegal, anyone with a common knowledge of an NFL rulebook would realize this. This shitty group of fans cheered, whole bar erupted when Giovani was put in concussion protocol. Cheering, shots, I'm over here talking to my buddy about how much bullshit this is, and at this point, I'm rooting for the bengals because this play didn't get flagged.
The next as Steelers fans called "Bullshit hits" cause the Bengals blitzed on first, was when Ben Roethlisberger was completely sacked, legally. And was in so much pain had to be "carted off". Let me add, i don't condone the fans throwing trash, but Ben's a garbage human being anyways. Of course, someone erupts in the bar about the trash being thrown saying thats BS or something. And that's where it hit me, these people related getting hit by a water bottle from a fan equal to being hit by a 300lb dude running 15mph straight to the jaw.
Here's some math for you guys. Force = Mass x Acceleration
Mass (300) x Acceleration(15mpg) = about 3.768..lbs of force TO A GUYS JAW.
I played Safety in H.S. and have accidentally H2H'd people, I was removed from game and out for 2 games, this guy did it intentionally and didn't even get a call. But Steeler's fans are going to whine about a waterbottle. lol.
Now let's talk about Vontaze Burfict's hit. This one is dodgey, but to an unbiased eye, it honestly looks like Vontaze had been post up to the left and began cutting across, where Antonio Brown was in the midst of being tackled and got pushed into the way. I don't see this "side-step" everyone is talking about where Vontaze ran into the lane of Brown. i could be wrong though, but there is 0 side step, he was just running straight to me.
And no delay of game when the Steeler's staff was on field? Yeah.. okay, any other team did that they would get delay of game plus whatever other ancient rule they could fish out of the NFL Book.
That being said, neither team was "too hot" on plays this game..
Steelers
Ben threw 3 interceptions, then got injured.
I wouldn't be proud of the fact Steelers were up by 15 for half of the game and only won by 2.
Bengals
Blew their win by trying to run the ball, should have just ran the clock.
No offense to any fans at all, just my encounter and my .02, now I'm gonna go wash some Iron City off my Bruins sweater.
