Life's most embarrassing car moments

-
Different D50 (not my 84 4x4), it was a 2WD with a Budget Build 318 in it.

When I first put the lil 2WD tire burner together, I had a 727 in it (later swapped in an A833), and had 3.90 gears with a Limited Slip, and I used a Ratchet Shifter that I found in a chevy at the junkyard...in hindsight, the shifter was probably why that car had been put in the junkyard. :D

At the time I had a Quadrajunk carb on the 318, and most of the time it didn't want to idle when sitting at redlights, so I'd row it up into Neutral before stopping.

Coming down over a hill with a redlight at the bottom, I start giving it some brake, the light hasn't changed, so I slap the shifter up into "Neutral" while moving...

Raaaauuut-raaaauuut-raaauuut.... I hear the tires squealing as they start spinning in the opposite direction :eek:ops: :prayer:

The Lockout on the Ratchet Shifter had jammed and I overthrew neutral and grabbed reverse at about 15mph.

I promptly swapped a Thermoquad on the 318 and shoved an A833 with a Hurst Comp Plus Shifter into the truck and it stayed in the truck until I tore it apart.

Did I mention the 727 that grabbed reverse is still in use to this day? It came out of a 70's Van, then got installed in the 2WD D50. Then I tore it down to beef it up (no damage inside) and ran it behind the 340 in my '74 Duster, then I tore it down again and converted it to 4WD and it lives in my '84 4x4 D50 now

Done a couple, myself...

Checking ATF, I was distracted and managed to jam the trans dipstick into the distributor. Shocking.

On a Fury, I was sort of laying across the engine and radiator trying to reach something below the master cylinder...as the old hood springs slooooooooowly sagged...and gently lowered the hood on top of me. Needed help to get out.

First brake job on drums, on my grandmother's 1971 T&C station wagon. Don't have the drum brake tools, so improvising with other stuff...and shot a spring off the damned car and right into my crotch. Bought drum brake tools that day.

Once, about a year and a half ago, Amy's Scamp had a vapor lock problem (before the engine was completely rebuilt, but after it was painted) and broke down between a bus stop and the front door of a 24 hour fitness.

She was in a pencil skirt all dolled up for an interview. She called me and I already knew what was wrong. When I got there, I was listening to the babbling of 4 different guys, giving me car advice. That I needed to check the points (elect. ign.) and what not. I just nodded as I got the gas can out of the other vehicle, poured some into the carb and then left.

When I showed up, I half expected a film crew. It was the most cliche thing I had ever seen, with a car breaking down.

Years ago with my Duster. On a first date in the winter -15°. The hub broke on the front wheel sending it rolling out in front of the car while we slid to a stop. Had to walk to Mcdonalds where i worked and borrowed a friends Vega station wagon to finish the date.
