With much sadness I heard tha local veteran, LTC (Retired) USMC Brian Winters passed on yesterday due to complications from ALS. LTC Winters, then CPT Winters led a platoon from B Company, 4th Tank Battalion FMF during the initial advance into Kuwait during Desert Storm. I’ve attached a link to a site that explains the actions that took place during the initial combat operation.
While the exploits of the big tank battles have faded into history much credit has been given to Army armor Calvert units for battles such as the battle of 73 Easting, little has been said of the armor engagements that B Company took part in.
I had the honor of attending a battalion dinning out when then Maj Winters was guest speaker. Interesting guy.
Hopefully they will find a cure to ALS in the near future. There are many Desert Storm veteran that has succumbed to that disease.
RIP LTC Brian Winters, Semper FI.
