Hey there, I recently picked up a 78 model year A904 lockup trans. I’m looking to see what’s involved in converting the trans to non-lockup. As far as I know the converter, input shaft, valve body and possibly the reaction shaft support are all different. Wondering is anyone had attempted this and knows what else is involved. Thanks for any advice.

904s, even HD ones, are not that hard to come by- the conversion can be done, but why go through all the cost and hassle of converting?
If you were closer, I'd trade you for a non-lockup. The lockups are getting hard to find around here.
However, if you insist on this, this thread is a good primer for what you're in store for, and what the differences are.
How to identify a non lockup A999 transmission with pics!

May not be. 78 was 1st year of the lockup converter, I have a 78 car with its original 318/904 and it's non lockup
For further proof it still has a drain plug on the converter which no lockup version ever had.
