I have my go to mechanic working on my Lokar cable set because I was not happy with my install. He is having trouble getting my Quikfuel 450 to open to full throttle because of the Lokar cable geometry. I am trying to come up with a solution because he is only able to get slightly more than half throttle with the Lokar set. Would a throttle lever extension correct this problem?
 
no, you need a throttle lever reduction. attach closer to pivot to get more travel on the throttle.
 
What accelerator pedal options do I have besides my current A body 64 V-8 pedal?
 
Ok, the problem is a result of using knock off Lokar cables. The kickdown cable was not a problem because there is not a lot of tension on a kickdown cable. The knock off cables are too thin to work with the high tension that a throttle cable requires. The thin cable kept binding even after I had a experienced mechanic install them. They would not allow full throttle travel no matter how they were adjusted. I went to a local Autozone and purchased a Spectre throttle cable to see if I could make the throttle open all the way. It worked, I am not getting any binding and I am now getting full throttle. The spectre cable is much thicker than the knock off ebay Lokar set. So if you want to buy a knock off Lokar cable, only buy the kickdown and find a better quality throttle cable, lesson learned.
 
Haven't tried a Lokar throttle cable, so I can't speak particularly to that. However, most throttle travel issues are the result of hooking the cable to the carburetor at the wrong place. Pishta touched on this above, but to elaborate just a bit: The throttle lever on the carb attaches to a throttle shaft. The shaft is the pivot point. Above that, the lever travels in an arc as the throttle is opened. The length of that arc depends on the distance from the cable attaching point to the throttle shaft. The farther away that attaching point is from the throttle shaft, the longer the arc and the less actual throttle travel you will have with any given amount of cable travel. So with a higher attaching point, you need more cable travel to open the carb any given amount. Most of the time, just moving the cable attaching point closer to the throttle shaft will fix what is perceived to be an issue of insufficient cable travel. Both Holley and Edelbrock have Mopar throttle cable adapters that are cheap, super easy to install and put the throttle (and kickdown) attaching points in the correct spot for full throttle travel. Plenty of people for whatever reason don't use these adapters, and yeah, it is possible to get full throttle travel without them if you drill a new hole in the carb throttle lever, but I've seen a lot of cases where the carb wasn't opening all the way no matter how hard you stomped on the gas pedal, and the kickdown linkage likewise didn't work like it should.
