My name is John and i've been a lurker here for awhile. Finally thought i should put up a new post. I purchased my first Mopar car (have a RAM diesel) a few months ago - a 73 Plymouth Scamp. Currently, the car has a nice running 318/904 combo installed by the previous owner. Over Christmas, i plan on installing a fresh 440/727 powertrain and RMS AlterKtion front end.

I'll probably be asking lots of questions/advice over the next several weeks - looking forward to joining the Mopar Family.

John, I'm just north of you in west Simi Valley. I belong to the CPW club that puts on Spring/Fall Flings. Looks like you are building a sleeper.

Do you buy parts from Westoaks MP? Troy, the MP guy there is a club member and a friend of mine. He's built a 440 A-body Duster in the past. Just a steel head basic motor that ran 11's, mini tubs, cage, and could drive to the track.

That car looks familar for some reason :-k :-k :-k ... Did Shannon at Redline gauges own it once??

Great plans for the Scamp.

Two words for you...

Rear End!

You'll probably be needing an upgrade soon if it's the stock 8 1/4 or worse the 7 1/4.

Cool looking ride and good luck with it. :thumrigh:

Autoxcuda,

I was at Fall Fling a few weeks ago; it was a beautiful day and i saw some really stunning cars (the Scamp was quite humbled by comparison). Have also thought about joining the CPW club to meet other Mopar fans.

I haven't started the major parts acquisition yet (other than the motor!), but have heard good things about Westoaks. I will probably hit them up for misc. brackets & accessories to complete the swap, may also check their prices for a TTI exhaust.

You have an observant eye. I bought the car from Shannon's brother Sean. Both of them deserve credit for the car's current condition - i haven't done anything to it other than some trivial cleanup work.

Crackedback,

Yeah, i'm excited to start wrenching and turn the car into a sleeper - the original paint & vinyl roof really complete the grocery-getter appearance.

The car has an 8 1/4 rearend right now. Once the powertrain swap is complete, i hope i can keep the 8 1/4 alive for a short while (a few weeks/month) to iron out any minor bugs. After that, an 8 3/4 or maybe a Dana 60 is definitely in the plan.

That car is really cool, you should be proud of it. Seriously, people get board of red Hemi Cudas. Different is cool. Sleeper is cool. Get a "Happiness is..... being a Grandma" bumper sticker or liceanse plate for it.

Troy can really help you. His prices on TTI is as low as anyones. TTI mandated a minimun price to it's dealer. If anyone goes lower, they are cut off from being a dealer. Westoaks is one of the biggest volume TTI dealers, if not the biggest.

He's built awesome cars himself in his garage so he understands what you are going through and is a totally hands on guy. That brown Challenger T/A on jackstands at Fall Fling was restored completey in his garage except for painting the shell.

If you buy parts from him, he knows the in and outs of installing the stuff and getting it to work. He can beat or match Summit on MP stuff and you'd save shipping.

I think it's got one of Redline's voltmeter gauge conversions in it??

I know of a A-body rear end that's reasonable and local. PM me.

Come out to a CPW meeting. Lots of A-body guys. A few in the process of doing 440 conversions.

Welcome aboard and nice scamp ya got there. Have fun with it.

welcome! a 440 scamp??? a 440 sleeper scamp??? awesome. i agree with the grandma sticker too.

Thanks alot for the compliments and words of encouragement.

I could really run with the "Grandma Sleeper" theme - add some AARP stickers, put on a gray-haired wig, drive 45 MPH in the fast lane....:happy11:

Oh ya, Oh ya, ain't nothing like a BB sleeper, but don't forget the furry dice from the rear view mirror and the wheel chair accessible sticker. Mind my asking what all you've done to the big lunger.

Demon Seed,

I bought this 440: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150178699272

It was built by David Kluttz of Kluttz Performance, a well-respected Southeast Mopar enthusiast. I'm so excited to start it up, but i have quite a bit of work to prepare for the new motor.

I have a Bill Reilly Alterktion conversion on order to free up some working space & improve the car's handling. My goal is to tackle most of the conversion & installation work over Christmas break; have a few days off from work.

Looks really good John, not to wild but wild enough. I'm actually thinking of using the Edelbrock Performer RPM in the place of the Weiand I've got on my 383 next year for a little more bottom end grunt. Some advice for you, if you don't already know, you'll need a good 3 core rad with shroud, Lokar throttle cable and kickdown cable for the 727, sub frame connectors and with the torque of that 440 I would be very careful using the 8 1/4 rear at all. Buddy dropped a 440 in a Duster last year and kept the 8 1/4 till he could find an 8 3/4 like yourself. Anyway he forgot to be careful one day and snapped the end off the pinion gear shaft and did some damage to the underside, what with the drive shaft flopping around and such.

Have fun. Terry

Welcome trouter!!
As you can see we have the best of the best here!
And your 73 scamp is swweeeet.
keep us updated and enjoy.

A belated welcome from another resident of Thousand Oaks! We'll have to have a northern SoCal ;) gtg sometime. I have a 75 swinger that I am using as my DD for now. Plan is to do a very budget restification on it.

Good luck with your project; I will definitely want to see/hear it when you are completed with it.
