I am building a near stock 340 and want to used a quality forged piston. I will be using stock X heads and a gasket of .039 compressed thickness. I prefer 0.020 over bore if available. With the fairly mild cam I will be running I need around 9.5 to 9.8 compression to meet the cranking compression of the cam manufacturers recommendation

What are your piston recommendations?

I think the issue you'll find is with the open chamber factory head, the typical shelp falt tops don't make enough compression until you trim the chambers down to 60ccs. That's a huge amount of milling and will require a fit-to-the-heads intake manifold. If you have to have forged, you couls go customs, which are dig bucks. Or you could use the battleship L2316(I think) forged TRW/Sealed Power deals. Keith Black also makes a hyper in that same design thats much lighter and will stand up fine for enything but NOS/boost.
