I have a factory cast iron intake for a 68/69 383 4bbl #2806301 I have been asked for the casting date which reads 5 - 1 5 is there anyone out there that can translate those numbers?

I would say May 1st, 1965.
 
That's a good guess Rusty , but it is a 1968/69 383 4bbl intake only

Not according to the date code.....IF I am reading it correctly and I believe I am. Stranger things have happened. lol
 
OK so I just went on eBay to see if there were any of these manifolds for sale on there and there are two of them. Both of them have the same style date code as the one that I have. The first one has 10-10 so I figure it's October 10th and that is all that is on the date pad, the second one has 4-21 so I figure it's April 21st and that is all that is on it's date pad nothing for the year so I am guessing that the 5 - 1 5 on mine is May 15th now this is just a guess but looking at the other two it makes sense.

That makes sense. Since the casting number gives the year, the date code gives the rest.
 
383 intake casting date is maybe different from 440? My 440 intakes have month day year. My 383 have date codes like 9X15 and 6-13. Why??
