is the LOWER ball joint stud on a 1970/small bolt pattern/9"drum the same stud as a 1974/big bolt pattern/disc stud?. they take different ball joints, but is the difference in the mounting to the bigger spindle and not the actual ball joint?

The ball joint mounting holes spacing is different between the two.

The late model use a larger nut, not sure about the actual stud diameter and angle. The late model joints do fit the early arms.

The stud taper and length is the same for all the lower ball joints. The differences are in the spindle mount bolt size, location, and the steering arms although they all use the same tie rod ends. The '73 up lower ball joints bolted right in when I replaced the 9" drum brakes with '73 up discs on my '66 Valiant.

are not all the lowers interchangeable ...except for the sway bar mount, of course?

I know...see above...thanks
