After reading the post on guitars, I figured I'd throw it out there. How many members still collect vinyl records, whether 45's and or Lp's? It's a Sunday morning tradition in my household to explore some great old music with the kids. Just doing our part to expose them to some great stuff....Rush, Sabbath, Dead, Stones, SRV.
Nothing sweeter than listening to the needle hit the vinyl...well ripping through gears listening to some great Bon Scott AC/DC is even better.

Currently looking for Iron Maiden Albums if anyone has any for sale.

I still have a bunch of old vinyl, 45's and LP's. Probably about 300-400. Mostly old original punk rock and metal. Alot of very rare hard to find stuff, some I have seen in local stores on the wall go for about $80-$100. I can't bring myself to part with it. I will eventually load it all into itunes but getting rid of it is hard to do.

There was a story on tv recently about new releases on vynil and its attempt at a comeback. I really dont think it will but... who knows.
I still have a few old lps stored here. Beatles mostly.

I have a modest Yamaha turntable with a $400 Clearaudio cartridge. I clean the LP's nicely with a cheap Discwasher wipe and fluid. Man, you'd be surprised how nice a lot of those LP's sound. Back in the day, I think we played those LP's with the crappy entry level cartridge that came with the turntables, not knowing what good sound could be extracted from those LPs.
I break them out at parties sometimes. It's fun when people say "I remember that song!" It's fun to hit the Goodwill stores and you can pick up some nice vinyl for just a buck each.

I've been lugging around my LP's for years, but can't bring myself to dump 'em. Most are messed up from parties, etc. But the memories are still there of my youth.

man those are some rare misfits 45's!!! Cool stuff man. I have that let them eat jellybeans comp too, I also have the rat musci for rat people I, and III, and the We got power trio from mystic records, about 10 Black Flag albums, mdc, minor threat, slayer, rudimentary peni, bad brains, coc, etc.......

Yes in fact all of the high audiophile stuff is vinyl. CD's are not near as nice sounding. But this is only in the high end gear. Eceryday studd cd's are the way to go.

Also have more than 1000 rock LP's and 45's from back in the day too.

I had a record store and disc jockey service in N. Ca. back in 81-83, then Cd's came out and pretty much destroyed the vinyl record biz...then they built a mall in the next town with two chain stores that sold records and Cd for what I was paying wholesale so I quit...have a pretty sizable collection of leftovers still....don't play them much anymore...still have the Technics turntable from the store...

Yeah,my wife has upwards of 500 lp's and like 1500 45's.It helped that back in the day her uncle owned jukeboxes all over the city.He gave all the 45's he took out to her.It is great to get them out on a rainy day and show and play them with the grand kids.

Ive got a small collection going. Some Marshall tucker, Styx, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith (Get your wings), and some Eric Clapton. I would liketo start hanging them on the wall of the garage for a little wall art.

I still have about 400 LP`s and love to listen to them through my vintage Marantz amp and Advent speakers. These old amps kick butt! There is a lot to be said about analog recordings, they have a warmth that digital recordings can`t reproduce.

Thanks !!! That's one hell of an idea !! We have a brand new wall dividing the last two bays in our shop that's about 12' high and 50' long, and I was telling my son that we have to paint it and decorate it this winter.. We already thought of hanging a few cheap guitars that we have around here, but the record thing will be cool.. I've got a bunch of old Beatle albums and an assortment of other classic rock albums.. It might look cool to have the jacket on top and the record itself hanging under it....Most of what I have is pretty beat up from years of use, so not much to lose...

Go for it! Let me know how it turns out. I need to dig mine out of the attic and do the same.

One thing I miss about LP vinal is the album covers. And when they open up.
I have a few picture discs. Metalica and Preist.

A couple of years ago I was talking with a guy at work that had a buddy who was big into collecting vinyl records. He came by my place, we went through my collection of 80's underground metal, hardcore, crossover, picture discs, imports, etc. He left with a few hundreds of my best stuff and left me a pretty large check. We were both happy. ;-)

I collect old drag racing records and any old albums with cars on the covers. Hanging on the wall with all my Hot Wheels there is Los Rebeldes, Dragsters in Hi-Fi Stray Cats, American Graffiti, More American Graffiti, Sounds of the Winter Nats 1964, Ventures, Grans Prix soundtrack, Smokey and the Bandit, 63 winter nats at Pamona and a bunch more.
All my other records are out in the garage next to the stereo and yes I also have a crapload of 8 tracks as well.

Records are making a comeback by mistake. Some guy at a store checked the wrong box on an order form and instead of CD's there were sent Records. They figured what the hell and set up the display, they sold out in less than a week. Now you can get old Metallica, AC DC, Maiden, ect.

Rumblefish you`ve brought up a good point. Years ago when one would buy an album ,in many cases there was a little extra with the cover or inside. A lot of guys here can surely remember The Beatles white album, The Stones Sticky Fingers, Zeppelins 3rd album, and who can forget Cheech and Chongs, Big Bamboo. How many of you guys used that big paper? Lol! Besides those things I still have some early LP`s like Aerosmiths 1st album (small band portrait) Skynrds Street Survivors fire cover, Golden Earrings 1st naked lady cover, Styx Paradise Theatre (laser etched) and many others. I don`t know about you guys but I miss things like colored vinyl and picture sleeves.

And things like "So Mote Be It" on the run-off matrix. Can't do that with a CD. I guess you could, but it'd be really, really small.

I've got some interesting Vinyl... stuff like; old George Jones parody album, Glen Miller, Marlina Deitrich, lots of Disco, 70s rock, sound tracks...

3404spdvaliant - Considerding some of the things you and I have been 'discussing' in the politcal forum, I never would have pegged you for a punker! As you likely know, Skrewdriver were considered to have nazi leanings (like most Oi bands) later in their existence, so yeah, that makes sense of some of your attitudes but the rest of it - I have the same records you do! The Rikk Agnew solo record is a classic. Falling Out is one of my all time favorite songs.

So what happened to you man??? Do time or something?

Did my living when I was younger and it's a good thing or would not be here today 'free' to post online.
'Time' just a few in county and a 90 in wasco, nothin major or what you'd call 'time'.

I recommend to any young people here who get into trouble not to, but if you for some lame *** reason decide to... better get it out of the way when your young because if you walk into that court room still fking up at 25+yrs old your in for a rude awakening. Judges don't like it when you don't have your head together at that age and WILL put you away for AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.

So now I strive to be a more cool headed, responsible, considerate, mature hard working adult, but I still know a few old tricks if you know what I mean.

I'll never give up my records.
BTW I really like 'surfside days' and 'it's doing something' 'IO',& 'one shot' by Rk agnw.
I know casey royer, he's alright too.
Justin.
