Just came across this last night, thought I’d see if anyone has an inside story on it. The details starts at the 40 minute mark. Looks like some spendy custom machine work to be "budget..."

I saw that and wondered the same thing. Made a mental note to talk to Derek about it at the duct tape drags later this month.

It definitely brings up more than a few questions concerning potential improvements to the pushrod and rocker geometry. I’m also curious about the no name aluminum heads he found for a “too good to be true price” too.

I see no roller tip, so what's the point? If it's the ratio, then simple, just choose the right camshaft.

I watched that video about an hour after he put it up. In it He says no name but think he meens part number.
They say TrickFlow on them if you watch the video. He also says bare head's so were low cost, and no numbers stamped. That's what I assumed.
So also assume the Average Joe would cost a pile to make them useable. And not the case for him, and nothing wrong with that.
So also guess what was used was lower cost Chevy vavles, springs, rockers , again nothing wrong with that if that's what ya have, and can make it work.
Same Machine Shop also made the plates for the rockers.
He does say Machinest is a Sponcer-Friend of his, and the Exhaust guy who is also his buddy sponcer.

My Machinist is a friend and cuts me a brake and does me favors. And one of my oldest and best friends is Transmission specialist. He won't take my money

This has gotta be the stupidest thing since those things you put in your air intake hose to make the air swirl. Just makes zero sense. Negative sense even.

I knew a guy in the late 70s or early 80s. He put beer in the tank for one of the Holley water injection things, that put a small stream of water into the carb. Remember them things? He was getting alky injection he would swear by it.

I do remember those. I don't even like water injection on forced induction. Water puts the fire OUT. lol

Sorry i side tracked the thread. Was just thinking no matter what anyine does on Youtube i have seen way worse. Just back back then no cameras around. Moth Balls in the gas tank at fill up anyone? Man i have seen some stuff.

Thet say TrickFlow on them if you watch the video
Pretty sure at first that the heads have have the engine guys name lasered into them, but can’t tell for definite now. They do look like a Trick Flow casting.

Etched in to the front of the heads it says “Paragon Engines” not trick flow Or edlebrock. That’s one of the things I zoomed in on while watching it. Ill bet money they’re speedmaster heads that his machinist milled the stands down on and made the rail for the LS rockers.

And one more screen shot. Hopefully some follow up from them in the future.

I looked again, what I saw on my small screen 1st time was at what i see now is at 51 min in. The font and being two words looked like Trick Flow to me on my small screen. But looked again and few min later on a real TV screen and clearly is not.
And he says at about same time "used junk LS rockers"
At the 50-53 min mark shows tge rockers as well.
He not pulling a fast one like other's do.
All and all it's worth the watch if you have the time. He's got a great channel.

The LS rocker with a roller trunnion upgrade is a hell of a stout rocker. If the geometry is correct I bet that rocker would be stable well in to the 7500 range.

I could see it if you already had Magnum heads, for example. But then again, maybe not. Hughes has those killer shaft mount rockers for the Magnum heads. There's just so many other options besides crappin up a good set of heads with Chevy stuff.

I’m not sayin it’s better or worse. But if you could buy a rail, and bolt down 1.7 LS rockers that were dead stable and reliable to big rpm for 1/2 of what a set of really nice T&D shaft rockers cost then it’s crazy not to at least look in to it.

My machinist prefers to correct Mopar rocker geometry by milling the rocker stands and making aluminum mounting blocks for the rocker shafts and using ring dowels to stabilize them. At that level of spending, I’d probably just go with some edelbrock magnums off eBay.

This thread was worth posting just for its value in “food for thought.” I started looking at my set of chrome moly body speedmaster rockers and a set of hold downs from Mancini Racing, which appear to also be speedmaster. It looks like it would be easy enough to drill and roll pin a set of the mounting blocks together for using with milled rocker stands cut for ring dowels. The bolt head register in the inverted hold down would register on the ring dowel.

I totally agree. You never know when you might hit on something. Just not this time. LOL
