Hey everyone. I am looking for some insight on installing this cam (60403) into my 340. This cam was recommended for my setup and really would like to use this cam for my car. My question is what exactly is required to purchase aftermarket for my valvetrane. If I buy the matched lifters and springs what do I need to change in my stock valvetrane. Do I need to change the pushrods, rockers? I am hoping that someone has already gone through this and has some good insite. I am already assuming that I will have to have the heads modified a bit for the recommended springs to fit. Thank you for the help.

Kyle

Grind the valve guide down for the lift, your spring pockets will have to be cut to set up the spring pressures, and I would for sure get 16 speed pro stock style adjustable rockers and 7.2** ball and cup (outside dimensions) pushrods.....

If it was me.

What is the purpose for grinding the valves down. Do you guys happen to know a general cost for the push rods and rockers? Also with the Speed Pro R-867R rockers do I have to get a new rocker shaft as well?

The guide down, where the seal sits. With that much lift the retainer will hit the guide seal, or even the guide itself.

New shafts, sure.... It's your call if you want to use your old stock ones if they are in good shape, I sure do, but most think I do things wrong.

If they aren't ridged, and wore, why not????

Cost?

IDK, COMP pushrods, if you can wade through the BS getting the RIGHT ones with them, are like 90 bucks, ISKY lists the correct ones, but they are like 180... Not worth the price, unless you just want to order them and be done with it.

The outside of ball to outside of cup measurement you will need, is around 7.250. ISKY lists 7.265, I actually gave up on COMP sending the me mech 2.500 pushrods twice, and ordered a mech ISKY cam. LOL. Screw hyd lifters, I hate them anyway.

You are suppose to use their dual springs, I found some single comp springs with close to the same spring rate. That way I didn't have to cut the head to get the dual springs to fit. I also went with the cheaper Crane Iron ductile adjustable rockers, and new pushrods cut to the length that I needed. I have the same cam as you. Very torquey.

Went the cheap COMP route, then went the lunati route, use the dual springs lunati wants you to...........

Freakin cheap comp ****.... GAWD.....

I think I might go with this setup from Summit. Only $30 more but has roller tips as well. So all I need is the 7.25 push rods then correct?http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRO-66869/

I would go stock style or the crane. Doesn't sound like your going totally trick. Not sure what size pushrods those will take.

My pistons are the stock 10.5-1 pistons that came in all of the pre-68-71 340's. Will I have any clearance issues with this cam too? I really dont want to go through the whole process of checking clearence if someone already has.

Trust me you wont have know clearance problems. It sounds stock, my(cam} 270/455 sound better and performed better.
