Lunati 60403 with Hughes 1110 spring???

One last question. Would it be an option to use the Lunati Voodoo 60403 cam with Hughes 1110 single valve springs? It looks like the hughes springs are recomended for similar spec Hughes cams but I want to make positive its a good option. I am hoping to stick with a single spring but if this doesnt work then Ill have to get the heads machined. Any input will help a lot!!!

My guess would be that its not a good idea, simply because if it doesn't work then you're pulling the heads to get them machined after you've got the whole thing together.

The Lunati cams have very aggressive lobes, and there have been lots of incidents where guys have gotten into trouble trying to make something else work spring-wise with their cams.

That said; I am running those Hughes 1110 springs on my car, with a hydraulic roller cam using the Comp XE lobes. The cam has similar duration @ .050 to that Lunati cam and a lot more lift, and the springs do work up to about 6200 RPM anyway. I would tend to think that aggressive lobes on a hydraulic roller cam would be rougher on the springs than a flat tappet cam, but that's conjecture only. I have no actual facts to back it up.

You might get away with it, but I probably wouldn't try it.

How does the Lunati cam compare to that of a Hughes cam then?
 
the mopar 847 spring will also give you 120 seat @ 1.65 and 265-275 @.500 fwiw.

I wouldnt use more psi than is recommended 'during break in at least'.jmo
 
I'd get the Lunati cam. And I wouldn't worry about using the Hughes springs. The seat pressure, open pressure, and coil bind will all work just fine with a 60403 Lunati.

I'm guessing that you don't want to mess with having the heads cut for the double springs that Lunati calls for?

Correct. I was hoping to stick with some type of single spring and primarily wanted to get input before I buy everything. Im by no means trying to go the cheap route but if there are good alternatives then its another deal.
 
Im getting ready to use the same parts. When i contacted lunati, I gave them the springs specs and they said they would do fine with the voodoo 268.

Now the Lunati springs have a spring rate of 363 lbs/in. Did you happen to find out at what lift this is? The Hughes is 310 lbs/in at .550" lift. Just curious if those numbers are comparable or not.
 
I just built a 360 with Magnum heads and Lunati 60401 cam with those same Hughes springs and it runs great; revs cleanly to 5500 RPM with no valve float and no other problems so far after 1000 miles. Just my $.02...

Did you ever figure out at what lift the Lunati spring was at to reach 363 lbs/in? At .550 the Hughes 1110 is at 310 lbs. Any thoughts?
 
Lunati is giving you the spring rate not the installed pressure and pressure at max lift. So if you set the Lunati spring at 120 pounds on the seat and you want the pressure at
.550 lift, multiply .550 times 363 gives you 199.65 plus seat pressure is 319.65 pounds at .550 lift. Its just math not rocket science.
