Since there is a thread about an old Chevy, I guess it's ok to have a thread with a brand F in it.
Haven't done anything with "IT" since the installation of the correct radiator which has pretty much taken care of the cooling problems, so I turned my attention to my GF. She had an 88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe 5 speed that finally died from a blown head gasket at the ripe old age of 327,000 miles! She was heartbroken at it's passing and eventual sale for pennies, so I have been watching for another to replace it with.
I located one, ironically in Washington.....the former home of "IT". After several conversations and a bunch of pics I made the deal and called the same broker that shipped "IT". But after a couple of weeks had gone by and the car hadn't been picked up, I started getting paranoid about it sitting 2000 miles away with no insurance on it. And since the price of gas has fallen, and finding a flight for $210 I decided to go get the car.
So 11-5 I flew from Dallas to Phoenix then to Portland where a friend picked me up. We drove up to Kennewick Washington where I picked up the Turbo Twinkie (as I call it). I had had NO sleep the night before and got none on the planes. But I'm one of these people who feel compelled to "get started" on the trip. So after checking the Twinkie out, I said my thanks yous and goodbyes and hit the road. I only drove to Pendleton Oregon, but I felt better about starting.
From there I drove through Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and home again. 75 mph speed limits, snow storm, mountains, desolation, 28mpg, and no problems. Oddly, I only saw three vintage Mopars in that 2000 mile 8 state oddesy.
Anyway, here is a link to 89 pics I took along the way. Most were taken with one hand @ 75mph. Hope you enjoy.....
