ok hear is the question got to options, a real good machinist that uses the older type hone with a drill buthas the good setup for it with the different hones, or would you go with a machine hone , what is your opinion trying to figure it out , trying to get everything i can out of this build:D

If you got the coin, have it machined. A quicky rering can get by with a cheap hone/glaze breaker if thats all you want to accomplish and if care is taken in the process. Just my opinion.

X2 ,Rick said Ir well.Unless, doing a junkyard re-ring go with above advice.

A good power hone will be more repeatable than the best hand hone effort. A modern ring needs the right surface - I'm not certain a hand hone can even get that.

Moper. Only if your REAL GOOD!
LOL!

If he has a Sunnen AN hone he can do a good job. However it is much easier with a power stroke hone. Make sure He has a torque plate for your motor. Also make sure he doesn't just leave a .001 to hone out after the boring. You need to hone .004-.005 to get a good finish. There is an old "machinist" the next county from me who bores to size and then hits it with a deglazing hone to put in some crosshatch. He told me that's how he does it. He only charges $100 to bore /hone a V8. I charge $200 to bore/hone with torque plates. Funny thing is most of my work comes from his county. There used to be another old guy in the area who honed by hand with a Sunnen hone who did excellent work. Also, a power stroke hone is only as good as the operator. So ,ask questions before spending your money no matter what kind of equipment they have.

hi, also, honing with different grit stones will produce a finer wall finish. like anything else, its the guy doing the work, as to how good he is or not!!!
I've seen wonderful hone finishes done with a manual hand hone, sunnen an style. the guy knew how to hone!!!! seen others done by a machine, looked ugly.!!!!!
