Hi, I've got an engine Magnum from Jeep Cherokee, 1998 (5,9L), and it was injector engine, now I'm building the carb engine (bought everything) and just realized that my Carter Mechanical Fuel Pumps M60514 will not work as the camshaft has no "pusher" for the mechanical pump. What options do I have? to forget about it and to swap to electrical pump or there any "adapter" or option to use my setup?

thanks in advance!

Hughes makes an adapter for the end of the cam but I've heard mixed views on it. I don't trust it so i'm going with an electric pump on my swap.

Hughes Engines

Same here. I don't want to have to take the front apart again if it has issues. Nothing wrong with an electric pumps.

Everyone has different opinions, but I have been using the Hughes adapter on my engine for 14 years without any problems.

Or, you might consider a frame rail mounted electric fuel pump with a pressure regulator.

Just make sure you plumb in an anti-rollover switch, cuz when yur upside down backwards and on fire; the last thing you wanna be doing is pouring 110liters per hour of gas onto the flames. No thanks.

edit; no thanks to electrics.

Or an inertial switch.... but yes, I agree that's an issue.

Do you want to keep the serpentine belt system? I believe, if you do, you have to go electric. The La style timing cover will not work with the serpentine drive.
On a 87 dakota I have, I just use the carter rotary pump. (4070 I think) But pressure is low, and does not require a pressure regulator.
Also, for safety, you can use a pressure switch, which is what they recommend. https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/crt-74773m.pdf

I did a Magnum swap and dressed it as an LA but with an electric pump and besides my Carter electric rotary kicking the bucket I have not had any issues with electric.
The electric also lets you use a fully recirculating fuel system which can be a big benefit in hot climates.
Also, instead of a regulator I used an orifice in the return with size determined with a pressure gauge.
Any pressure above what the carb can use is returned to the tank.

Good info, and as you mention that rotary does not need a regulator as they are a high volume low pressure pump.
A bit noisy though.:D

thanks a lot everybody for the full information, looks like I'll stay with an eccentric so far, but after I'll upgrade my system with an electric pump. Have a nice day!
P.S. sometimes you know that there is a solution but have no idea what to write in the search string, this is exactly this case :)
