Magnum Swap with Carb

So I know this is not an A-Body but still a Mopar Magnum Swap I would love some help with...

I have an 84 W-100 Ram with a 318 and it is a DOG. I have a low mileage 360 Magnum out of a truck and I am really thinking about swapping it in. I have a few questions:

1. I assume I can use the factory magnum flex plate and just bolt it to my existing TQ Converter in the 84 Ram?

2. If I just put on an Edelbrock intake, 750 Edelbrock Carb, Mopar Dizzy kit, add an electric fuel pump, and use the existing magnum manifolds how much hp and tq should I make?

3. It is a truck and I want truck torque. Is there an advantage to putting in a different cam?

Yes all your plan sounds good. A bone stock 5.9 with a carburetor will typically make 300 hp or so. There is a significant gain with a cam swap, probably 30-40 hp better.
 
You need to use the 5.9 Magnum flex plate as you planned, but you will have to open up 1 hole in the flex plate to bolt to your existing converter. If you take the flex plate off the magnum motor, and bolt it to the converter in the truck, 3 bolts will line right up. You will then see what little bit needs to be hogged out of that 4th hole. Others may disagree, but I kinda think a 750 cfm carb is too big for a 360. Sounds like a good swap, so good luck.
 
The 5.9 convertor has a balance weight for the 5.9 that the 318 convertor doesn't have.
 
Just know that the magnum uses a different intake than an LA engine.
 
Thanks for the replies. I have read that the 300 HP crate I’d just a production motor with a carb. Is that true? Would like to know if there is a better RV/Towing cam out there that I should use.
 
I pull trailers and cars/trucks on a dolly with my stock (except for cat back duals and K&N filter) 5.9 2000 Dakota R/T.

No problem.

I've pulled two full size D100 trucks across the county with it.
 
FWIW I think we need to be careful comparing hp rated in net or gross.
I believe the crate 300hp engine is a gross rating....
The say, 2000 ram 5.9 240?HP is net rating....
Assuming the crate motor was installed with factory magnum exhaust manifolds, and the only real changes is an alum. aftermarket intake, small 4bbl. and electronic ignition, in reality, the hp is going to be much closer.

I think you are right. While I had this out and on the stand and before I put it in the truck, I was wondering about anything I should do like a cam to help increase HP and TQ for a 4WD truck.
 
I am doing something very similar.
I took a 2000 ram engine. Took it apart...... Put it back with stock parts. Im putting it in my 87 Dakota.
I ended up going HEI ignition, edelbrock intake and a 670 carb.
I looked at changing the cam, but keep in mind, an increase in lift, and especially duration, moves the power band up.....
I really wanted to swap cams, but it was going to run 5-600 dollars to do, if not more.
I decided to keep mine stock for now.

For a small increase, have you looked at thinner head gaskets?
 
I have a 2002 Mopar Performance catalog that has the crate motor specs. I'll post it later. Intake, cam and springs and some other things upgraded over the truck motors. Their HP ratings are with a 750 cfm carb.
 
I have a 2002 5.9 in my Dart with a 4-spd.

I put a 5.9 mag in my old 1978 W150 in the place of the 318, the difference was very noticeable.
I did put KB107 pistons and elebrock heads on it with a comp roller cam.
It was strong.

Still, they dont say if its gross or net hp. Ill bet its gross.
