Hi everybody, I was just wondering if anybody here has dealt with mailing parts to France? There is someone that lives in France that asked me about producing a hood emblem for a 1963 Dodge Dart GT, so I figured it out and now it is complete and need to send it to him. It is a very small part that weighs less than 1 Oz. But it is about 3/8" thick by 2"x2", and I am not sure if I can just put it in a letter envelope or need to box it up. If anybody has sent things over there, please give me some pointers. Thanks

As a former USPS employee, in a past life, my suggestion is to package anything as if a tractor tire will fall on it. Because there is a very good chance that a tractor tire will fall on it. Trust me a tractor tire gives zero ***** about what you have in that package.

I package everything as if it's going to a war zone.

I would double box it traveling that far.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the hood emblem if you don’t mind posting a picture.

Here are a couple of pictures.

@French demon
François, do you have any advice to offer?

Hi S'cuder
For a so tiny and lightweight item, a padded envelop will be perfect. And Claydart will be able to send it as a letter, not a parcel.
This way, I think that he won't have to fill any US export form. The envelop will probably escape from import and custom taxes.

With USPS priority (and also first class mail), I've never got any trouble, and shipping won't be expensive
Generally, a letter takes 4 or 5 days to arrive in France.

Greetings from France
Francois

Thank you, Francois I will give it a try, and if it does not make it there, no big deal to me. I was not charging him for the part anyway, and it can easily be reproduced.

And if US mail asks you for filling an export form, just check the gift box. But sincerely, I think not. Normally, letters are not concerned by customs declarations

I brought it to the post office and the clerk said " what's in here, photos? " and I just said yeah, OK. and she put a stamp on it and asked for $3.15 so hopefully it gets there in one piece.
