I've just recieved a TTI system to bolt to an original pair of 340 manifolds.
2863549 manifold part number. however, there is no way the down pipe will come out at the correct angle. I noted that the manifold has been cut and rewelded. Has it been botched? Please check pic and let me know!

yup, thought so. I am so bummed. Now need to fabricate some kind of new downpipe to meet up with the rest of the TTI system. :wack:

with some luck the only thing you will need to do is cut of the flange from the new downpipe and weld it back on to the pipe , just put the whole exhaust system on the car and wait for that downpipe to the last and see what you can do about it, im sure its not something you can solve pretty easy with some luck;) even if it realy sux to start cuting new parts:(

If i'm lucky! i'll offer all the parts up and maybe get a new section welded in. At the end of the day its a setback but I can still use the TTI system to about 95%!

Personally, I would replace the maifold before I cut the headpipe if you are looking to "do it right" from a restoration point of view. You should have no trouble getting close to the same money from a guy who isnt restoring a car, just wants the hi po manifolds. The way to get it to fit now with that manifold, is to cut about 1" below the flange of the new headpipe, install the entire system, expand the section of pipe on the flange slightly, then bolt it on the manifold with the gasket in place. Then you stick the cut end of the head pipe in the "puffed up" area of the flange, and tack weld it. Then unbolt the flange, lower it a little, and weld it solid. Then it's on the same angle as the manifold side, and isnt twisting the gasket area causing leaks every few months.

Thanks Moper, good advice. I set about fitting the new system to the drivers side today. Boy, it is tight for sure!

sorry that never came across my mind trying to find another manifold, over here 340 engines are rare, and a manifold is almost impossible to find since most people run headers and those manifolds where trown away in the past:(

but you have real good idea´s moper!

Hey, i offered up the drivers side manifold tonight, luckily i'm changing the heads or I wouldnt have got the manifold past the steering column. chrysler sure made the A bodies busy in the exhaust area for sure.

ps 340 manifolds are also nearly non-existant here in the UK too, hence my concerns.

yepp chrysler didnt think to much about space for exhaust thats something i have noticed to;)

missed that you like me are from europe that makes things more complicated;)

Yeah..you foreigners. I cant imagine how hard it is to find parts over there.

dont know about UK but here in sweden its a pretty big "culture" with people who like old american cars and muscle cars most parts that is close to stock or stock replacement is not a big problem at all but things like cast iron manifolds for a 340 is realy difficult, i work att what probably is swedens biggest company selling US car parts and i can find most things i need there sure its more expensive than buying parts over in america but most things are possible to find;)

hey tim here is a pic at about the same angle of yours. you can see the angle difference here. they are not mine so i cannot give you any measurements or angles. at least with yours like it is you can have extra clearence on the oil filter. take a look and see.....

hey tim here is another route to take if you want. don't know if you are going 100% retro or not. these are a great repop but with no p/n stamped on them. just thought i'd throw you another option......here is the link. look at the bottom of page....http://www.accurateltd.com/
