Manual gearbox adapter?

I need to get a manual gearbox for my '73 440 swap and i've been doing some looking around and i've seen adapters for the manual gearbox from the steering shaft. Do i need this just for a bone yard gearbox swap or do i still need it for a new one? I've been looking at the flamming rivers stuff and don't know if i need it and is there any other places to get a new box any cheaper?

If you go from a power box to a manual box yes you will need an adapter. Doesnt matter if its a new or old box. The other option is to change the steering column.

The adapters are all pretty much the same price range. About $125-$150. The flaming river piece is the nicest set up.
