The column shaft from a Manual Steering 3 On The Tree column fits in a Power Steering Floorshift Column, right?

I have a '71 Floorshift Column in my '74, and as much as I love the Power Steering, I need the room for headers.

I have a Manual Column in my '71 Duster, and thought I'd just swap the shaft. It's not the first time I've installed a shaft in the column in my '74. When I bought the column, it had no shaft, so I transplanted the shaft from the original out of my car (Auto on the Tree, Power).

I can use the Steering Box from the '71 as well, correct? Or is there something that would prevent me from using it? I know the mounting bolt pattern is the same, and with the column shaft from the same car it should drop right in?

Is there anything I'm forgetting?

the manual pitman arm that moves the steering is different than a PS pitman arm. 73 up is different than 72 lower. . I suspect you are running all 74 steering stuff since you have a factory 74 PS box currently?

I did the same thing. Got a manual box from early 70s. Took me 2 trips to autozone to get a small spline (fits manual box) 73 up pitman arm. All 4 boxes they pullled out had the same part number but 3 out of 4 were the wrong part, cause the whole operation is a front for some sort of cluster fk.

I could be wrong on all of this but I dont think so.

I think they just put whatever part they have laying around in the box and say %$#* you once they have your money

So I should take the Pitman arm from the '73+ Power Steering with me, as well as the whole '71 Manual Box, slap both on the counter, and verify that the new pitman arm in the box is a Small Spline '73+ style?

I would take the pitman arm off the power box if you can. Yea otherwise take both boxes in. Then get the whole manual box. You want the splines to fit the manual box but the arm to have the right ball joint on it which points the correct direction (up VS down)

So, anyways. All you need is a small spline (manual) pitman arm which is compatible with 73 up steering linkage. :) The 73 up steering linkage is superior in my opinion. Someone else will hopefully chime in with a proper PN.

Far as I know there is not a large spline manual pitman arm / large spline manual box.

Since you have a number of cars, you can compare the pitman arms for a 71 VS a 73. I am pretty sure that the 73 UP has the ball knuckle that points down.

Heck, nevermind, here is a thread that explains it all.
