Today, it starts.

Reporting to my new position in Smithers BC Monday morning. 2000 km drive this weekend, wife, kids, dog and 3 miserable cats. Wish me luck. Hope my sanity holds out, or is it already too late?

Once you pass the washed out area near Medicine Hat, the road should be smooth sailing. Enjoy the novelty of the divided highways, higher speed limits, and fewer bumps in the road in AB.

Once you hit BC, the speed limit drops and some of the locals think nothing of passing under visibility conditions that would scare a prairie stubble-jumper half to death. Beware of wild game crossings around dusk when the critters move a lot.

Try to make a stop along the way that will allow everyone to soak and relax in the hot springs. After a long drive, it is good for what ails you.

"Let me tell you a little story about a man named Jed..."

Your description reminded me of the Beverly Hillbillies. You just need Granny in a rocking chair in the back of the truck. :toothy10:

Good luck!

Good Luck on your new position! Better opportunities await you in a new area. It is always a kind of uncertain scene to leave where you are comfortable, I did it 3 yrs ago and do not regret it one bit. Good luck again. keep us posted!!!

Thanks everyone,

Made it late Sunday evening. Enough cat and dog stories to fill a book. Best part is we left them in a kennel tonite, kids have their own room too.

G'nite!

Well, 10 weeks later, I'm finally settling in. Just changed my profile to say where I am and thought I'd send some pics.

View out the front window and my backyard.

Don't know what to do with the mountains, but they are nice to look at.

I'd send pictures of the garage, but I've got to build it first!

That's quite a view out your front window!
I don't know what I'd do if I had to live in a flat area and didn't have mountains to look at. Here in SoCal we have the best of all - about an hour to either the ocean, the mountains, or the desert. Of course, we also have way too many people and too much traffic!

I grew up surrounded by mountains. When I go to the midwest it freaks me out. The horizon is supposed be be mountains. It's just the way it is.

How about a west side story?
Seriously, how do you like it there and how is everyone adjusting?
I'm a B.C. boy myself originally.

Soon if not already the Aspen will turn to gold and the visual effect of that is unbelieavable. I was at a meeting there years ago in October, it was amazing :-D

Agreed, golden Aspens in the fall are just about the prettiest tree to be found. Enjoy.
