Been working on a mild magnum build this year.
(Finally got it swapped into the Car over the weekend!)

I scored a nice low mileage stock 5.9 motor out of a 98 Durango for 100 bucks. Tore the motor down, Junked the beer keg manifold and thrittle body crap. Had the heads hot tanked and inspected for cracks (none).

Installed new camshaft bearings, valve seals, gaskets, valve springs, timing set, oil pump, water pump, oil pan and pickup ext.

Installed a Mild Lunati custom grind roller cam
(Got the biggest cam Lunati said would safely work with factory spec valve springs/rockers)

Topped it off with a dual plane eddy intake and freshly rebuilt 600 eddy carb.
Shes getting Dougs long tube headers with true dual 2.5" exhaust and Flowmaster 40's. We will also be running Painless performance wiring, and a MSD box with blaster coil.

Also, we ended up going with the LA timing cover and water pump with V belt setup and LA Valve covers. Car is manual steering manual brakes ext. with no heater/AC and running Electric fans so the only thing belt driven is the alternator and water pump.

Anyone wanna take a stab at Ballpark how much HP the motor will be putting down with no head work and just the bolt ons/cam? I see a lot of threads where people make a lot of claims about what mods add (X) amount of power, so when the build is complete will be getting it Dyno'd to see what the truth is.

Also for those interested, will be running a 727 transmission with reverse manual valve body, 8 3/4 rearend with 4:11 gears and suregrip.

It's green. I don't care what the boys at Lunasty said, that engine will never reach its potential with used, high mileage valve springs. <smdh>

I’d take a stab at the power level but you never gave us the most important item to figuring that out.
What are the cam specs?
Post up the spec card or give us a direct link to the cam at there site.
(Spec cars is better.)
Mob! And without a doubt! Get good valve springs on those damn heads that match the cam!

It sounds like the cam is where all the hopes of gains are coming from...and it also sounds like the one part of the build that contradicts your goal of a mild build.

FWIW, the Magnum 300 crate motor (300 crank hp) sounds like pretty much exactly what you have aside from the cam.
The Magnum 380 (380hp) crate motor had a hotter cam (no idea how it compares to yours) but it also had upgraded valve springs and a single plane manifold. It sounds like you're closer to the latter...so long as your valves aren't floating.

All I can say is that my 5.9 Magnum 300 (with the mild stock cam, dual plane manifold, headers, 650 carb, electric fans) is absolutely not impressive. At least it gulps gasoline like a real muscle car engine. :D I hope that cam wakes yours up!

we got brand new valve springs for it they're just factory spec.

The stock valve springs are barely good enough for the stock cam. Return the new stockers and invest in something like the hughes 1110 setup.

Would like to know the cam specs too.

I went stock with mine to save a few bucks, but now I’m wishing I had at least done a cam and springs.
