So im replacing big old dumb starter, pulled a mini off 96, or 97 or 98 model ext. Cab dodge Dakota v6 mag. Hmm it lined up bolted up nose cone slightly off, so im taking a chance I modified the cone, ... About to try and bolt now, any suggestions ?!?!?!?!

This is before the modification how it lined up, my thinking is if this starter bolt pattern matches and it does and lines up perfect there's no reason I can't shave the cone ...

Okay nose is great I can get both bolts in I can even screw them down halfwY then NEW PROBLEM has came about, as you can see my mark, with the trusty sharpy, needs cut or filed down maybe very slightly to pass, you can see the shine, where it's scraping and I mean barely... So back to the file .....

Thank you Mike !!!! Smoke break!!!! Maybe I should break out the creeper, back a little sore no biggie, I've had this mounted lined up a good 10 times, and if I can't get it, then everyone will know not every mini starter off any v6 or v8 mag from 88 to 2000 will fit, even with custom fabrication, either way something good will come out if it, and I will get the exact year of dodge Dakota it was a 96 or 97 or 98 v6 mag

Update : brought it in for a nother nose job, grinded off a Ber or tit, weld, on block, heh grinder at the CNC shop where the block was made was lazy I think, should now fit perfectly snug .... Ready to try again.

I have a 92 V6 Dakota starter in mine and we put the same one in my friend's 71 Demon, both small block cars.

You REALLY need the shield or a shim piece. Mine locked on the flywheel when I didn't have it installed. Been perfect since I had it in there. My starter really doesn't look any different, IIRC.

I wasn't referring to a heat shield. I'm talking about the one for the torque converter that the starter would be passing through.

Wow it's nice, I will say that, mini turns it like no other.... And if you modify it, and it works makes you more proud of it. Couldn't have done it without info from this forum though. Lots smarts people here.
