In the spring I swapped out my larger style starter for a 1990s mini starter. Worked great, easy to install once I got the old pig out. Now the odd time, when I turn the key, I hear a "click" like it engages but does not turn. I can walk away for 5 minutes come back and it is fine. I've checked all connections, battery is 100%. Could this be a solinoid problem? WTF this one is driving me nuts. This was a scrap yard 40$ unit, do I need to pony up some $$ for a "new" unit from NAPA?

Try to go to Advance Auto and have it tested for free. See if they find a problem. I have a local auto electric shop that will also tell you if starter is good for a few bucks maybe you can find a shop like that in your area. Hope you find your problem.

How close to the headers etc, may be heat soaking then o.k. when it cools down just a smidge?

Hey Wally, just had my ministarter out(bought for $40 from B&D)as when tightening 3 months ago I guess I cracked the solenoid contact?Anyway took it to a place on Speers rd. behind Fantasy fruit market, they fixed me up for $20.Sounds like yours is sticking?Just a thought, they may beable to take it apart and clean it up for you cheap?
