Hey guys and gals, new to the forum, but a third generation Mopar enthusiast. Anyway, I have a 1970 Duster 340 that I will hopefully begin restoring/modifying this fall. My question involves sound systems. I want to keep as near an original appearance as possible but I want a modern stereo/CD/mp3 to go in the original rallye dash with as little cutting as possible. Any ideas? Thanks guys and gals.

Don't cut the dash! They are worth to much to go hacking on them. Put the head unit in a box under the dash or front seat.

I agree with burn't Don't Cut your dash if you want modern sound with the original looks go here and order one of these modern radio's with original look these things work awsume, I am going to get one for mine duster as soon as funds allow. you tell them what you want and they build it for you (so it fits in your car), prices around $250.00 check them out!!

Dont cut your instrument bezel. Send it to me. I'll cut it.

My dash someone had pryed the old radio out and put a little bend in the dash so I cut mine to except a cd player.

BUT if you want to restore it and make it as valuable and original as possible than don't cut it......however, if you are building it for you and originality is not your number one priority than I say do what you want.

but also, now there are company's that are making factory style radios but with ipod plug ins and RCA jacks on the back to hook up a cd changer or to run and amplifier.

so you have options....you do not HAVE to cut the dash....it may be more simple and cheaper to cut the dash and run a cd player...but there are other options.

ohh and WELCOME TO FABO!!!!

I am bypassing the original head unit (didn't work anyway) and put a new one under the seat. Not that I am really concerned about the "originality" of my Duster.. I am just trying to make it look as Sleeperish as possible so when I go cruising past corvettes on the road course it will make them freak out. So yeah.. I'm hiding mine.

Oh! Welcome to FABO!

I finally got my high resolution photos today so,
I thought I should let everyone see that I wasn't just being a wise guy earlier.
Complete details will be available soon.

I have 2 6X9 triaxles under the package shelf ( factory provisions ) and 2 very small tweeters velcro on the front kick panels. Under the seats is a good hiding place too.
