What starter do you guy's use for your drag car????? I've had bad luck with power master in the past,We need to get one and wanted to know what has lasted in you drag cars,14-1 small block application Thanks Steve

What sort of "bad luck?" You might be running too much initial timing, and might need some sort of start retard

I had bought one for my duster (street car) and it was toast after 6 months bought a mopar performance and its been it there 3 years now and doesn't miss a beat so that's why i asked to see if everyone leans toward the mopar stuff or after market.the duster is only 11-1 comp and the 5.7 headers surround it on the valiant there is a good amount of space around it from the headers,What about a heat blanket is that a good idea or not.(with the new starter) thanks -Steve

the one i have was for a 93 dodge ram 1500 with a 360 magnum motor. its been in my car for over three years. my 73 dart is 11.1.1 compression and has the timing locked out.the same stile starter i used on my 65 plymouth that was 12.5.1 compression and had a crank trigger. I think this is the one i have. its been solong.lol

but like what was asked, what kind of problem are you having?

I always use one of the smaller stock ones. I used to use one on my old 360 that was 15-1 comp. with no problems.

So what ARE you doing for starting timing lead?

Just trying not waste money on a piece of **** starter, not having a problem, the starter that came with the car is a powermaster which I said before I had trouble in the past with and we borrowed one from a buddie and have to purchase one and wanted to know what u guys are using-thanks steve

Sorry the powermaster died with a dead short in the windings, I should have stated that before.

junk yard 94 ram starter. So dependable I've forgotten about it...

So are those Ram starters the mini-Frame???? Thanks Steve

My parts store unit has a lifetime warranty ;) all is good

This is what I did too...whenever I kill a starter I just take the dead one back and they replace it, no questions asked. I have used the CRAP out of that lifetime guarantee, killing a starter every 4 years or so, 21 years and counting, LOL!

My timing is locked at 34° and the headers cook the starter over time...but that's ok, it only takes 15-20 minutes to swap out, and if I recall correctly I paid less than 40 bucks for one back in 1993...one of the best investments I ever made. :D

I get my mini starters from NAPA for Dakota(360) and keep a spare new one in the trailer.I always like to keep a spare handy now after getting stuck in the staging lanes 2 yrs ago.:wack:
