Things are 1/2 price on a Chevy. Look at range of max effort big block heads for a GM 505. 60% of the performance aftermarket is GM, 30 is Ford, that leaves us an AMC with the other 10% of the American V8's...and even AMC got small block AL heads before we did and their STR repopped by Edelbrock!

It's a popularity contest, and no one wants to be left out.
              Very limited on perspective

This equation holds true for almost anything car related-

              55% gm/25% ford/20% other including Mopar.

Unfortunately, true. So goes to the 'popularity' statement I made....
I remember hearing the, 'cause they're popular' (free rider effect of being superior) argument since the 70's... but NO ONE disputed the Hemi whenever brought up in the conversation.
But there was almost nothing, cyl head wise, in the aftermarket those days. Everyone had to race what Mother Detroit had to offer.
I came upon an article written about Smokey Yunick speaking on the early SBC (265).
SY said the rods were too weak, RS ratio was too short, and the valve completely compromised by the stud mount rockers. But it is a light/compact engine that made good power if it didn't break.
So, parts may be cheap, and plentiful today, but WE don't have to buy stud girdles, guide plates, or 6" rods. This list gets bigger, once you think about it.

All the NCIS franchise is Mopar from what I've seen. Maybe Mark Harmon had a Challenger while he was at UCLA
