I have been looking into the MP 340 commando aluminum cylinder heads. is it worth it to go to they big port aluminum commando cylinder heads or stick with the derect bolt on aluminum mp commando heads. about how much hp. will either add. Also what is the cumbustion chamber CC on either and how much does either flow. also on either of them can i run my original stamped rockers?? Also i have a MP 508 lift purple shaft cam, how will the 513 lunita voodoo cam work against this and how well does the mp 533 hydralic perform??

thanks chris

Chris;

The big port Comando head need work OOTB, but once you deshroud the valve from behind the chamber wall, the'll flow well. However, while your there, bowl blens/pocket port the head. These heads can be ported preety well and flow over 300 cfm.
The do use off set rockers, so the stamped steel rockers are out.
The direct bolt on aluminum heads would be quicker and easier to do with less potential than the big port units. This is due to the port layout. They should still perform well.
The cc for the big port head is OOTB @ 55 or 53. I forget. But it needs to be opened up (For more cc's) before the heads shines.
How well any cam performs in a car is more than just head flow or material being use.

How many C.I. are these heads going on? This will determine how big a cylinder head that you will need. The 177cc head will more than take care of 408, and 416 strokers when done right. Also keep in mind that the bigger the runner the higher the rpms will be and have to be turned to get HP, at the cost of low performance in the lower ranges and loss of torque.
Then if you were to have the 177cc heads and you do have to do some work to them, the ccs get bigger which now moves you closer to the 190 version with bolt down parts. Just remember that you can always take it out but you can't put it back easily, or cheaply. Then once your too big with big flow #s that now your cam is too small and you just spend more money trying to catch up.
The heads are very well worth the money spent, but I'm just saying be conservative and use the smaller heads. I believe that you'll be much happier with them.

BJR, I think he may not reply so fast since after my post, i noticed the date is a few months old.
I took for granted there would be at least 360 C.I.'s in the engine.
(Good post by the way.)
