whats the difference between a 48* block and a 59* block? Is it just the lifter angle?

48° blocks have more options I believe too. Roller cam bearings, deck heights, siamese or water type cylinder cores, cooling and oiling provisions, head bolt patterns, mount configurations... I'm pretty sure all of those have multiple choices when you get really into the 48° stuff.

I have read in the How to Build Big Inch Mopar Smallblock book that the 48* blocks require special cams and heads "certain versions of w2,w7,w8,and w9 cylinder heads that a valve angle of 15* (stock angle is 18*)"

Have been emailing Ryan at http://www.shadydellspeedshop.com/index.htm and from what he has told me it takes a good deal of machine work to get roller lifters in a 59* block. He said that sbc rollers will drop right in the 48* block, and as long as you run 1.7:1 rockers standard heads will work, as well as a standard intake.

I believe comp cams now have drop in lifters for those blocks...solid rollers
