Still up and running strong in Colorado! Had a great day traveling around with my grandson visiting various relatives...
It's always nice to be home though...

Works fine, I had no problem..
        He put in a 180°, said I had a 160°?..
Door got fixed, but froze yesterday morning and had to take his Honda to work. (Blames me for washing it?! Lol) We tried a couple of tricks but he hsd to get going. Worked fine when he got home. Of course I asked him to bring home lubricant, but he didn't... We'll see what happens in about three hours..

Well it looks like after 4 rounds the truck finally passed emissions in Colorado.
first off the tags were done at the end of March but instead of taking it to be tested long before that the day before the tags died he went and got a temporary tag instead of taking it through DEQ. Then the next month comes up and he's forced to. Then he takes it through and it fails miserably and he is at wit's end immediately and wants to give up and try and register it out of town LOL of course I tell him to make some kind of adjustment and try again because it took me three times to get it through here in Oregon myself. What does he do he pulls out the metering rods and guess what...
              578521758.jpg
when he was playing around with the Springs one day he jammed one of the rodes in and has been wondering why it's been blowing black smoke out when he punches it! LOL and why he can turn the bleed screws both of them all the way in and it still runs??? well he put some metering rods in there that match these and it did a lot better but still failed. So what does he do he opens up the bleeders a half turn lol... back to miserable! LOL then turns them back to half turn and back another quarter turn and passes with flying colors...
then calls me the next morning bragging about how great the truck started and how much better it's running than ever before! LOL. THAT BOY!!!...

Now in my son's defense I know I gave him a pretty hard time but he does very well with all three children and has to dedicate a great amount of this time to them. having these difficulties isn't what I brought the truck to him for but to have it enrich his life and make him more happy. It's hard enough being a mechanic and working all this time and taking care of the children and then having to work on cars in your off time. Let alone an old vehicle that in some cases he doesn't quite understand. But he is my boy and in the end he got the job done and got it done right..

I think he talked about some collector's plates or something to resolve that issue for the long-term..

Just getting back in from Denver. Brought a transgo 2 shift kit and we put it in at my son's work. Well... I put a check ball in the "R" hole. Result--- NO REVERSE!!!
Called tec line and they said that's the problem...:BangHead: CRAP!!!
New gasket, RTV, and 6 quarts of trans fluid... Now shifts immediately and great:thumbsup:
Also I finally got to put the valve covers and air filter on...

Get rid of that clear fuel filter, you know better than that.

They have a tendency to rupture, or start leaking, replace it with a steel one.
Better yet, take a steel one, and move it to the inner fender away from heat.

I've just never had any problems with them. I've always kind of seeked them so I can see if I'm getting fuel...

Had one when I opened the hood it was spraying gas from a pin hole over the top of the engine.

Guess what? I get to go to Colorado to tune up the truck.. can't get him to pull the carburetor off... Says it starts just fine and runs good but under power he said it surges really hard as if someone's pinching the fuel line on and off.....
I figured since I'm there I better give it a full tune up. I'll put new plugs rotor and cap and inspect the wires... I'll pull the carburetor off and pull it apart and see what may be clogging it. Definitely check the vacuum advance hose...
I did get him to put a new fuel pump on it... Hard to tell till I get there...

                                  Timing?
Maybe the advance in the distributor is jacked?

Okay I'm here in Colorado for a couple days to help my son with the more purposeful truck... just to recap it's a 76 Power Wagon 360 automatic with a cast-iron four-barrel and Factory exhaust, Edelbrock (1406) carburetor...
Developed a new problem which almost seems like he's soaked in the carburetor. Drove just fine for the half hour to an hour. Shut it off and restarted it and had a mushy gas pedal and surging...
                                    Almost like bad gas..

I love that old truck. Glad to see it's still runnin. So is he so helpless that you have to travel across states to work in it for him?
