My 318 has a leak coming out the bell housing. I have not been able to find it or really do a good job of looking for it, yet
As the car is a senior citizen, and a very good looking senior citizen, are there any type of "diaper" I can strap under it to catch the drip until I can get under there.

I have a metal drip pan in the garage and in the driveway. but I do not always hit the one in the driveway.

We had to have them on motorcycles when we raced.
Our Buell messed with the officials; the muffler is under the bike, there was no room for the catch system of the spec'd capacity.

For cars, I've seen them and it's more like a true diaper. I want to say I've seen them at museums.

Many of the new Ford models have a diaper. (They say it is for noise but I have my doubts) The thing about them is once they get soaked and get close to hot exhaust you might have problems. Just let her drip. My 70 swinger does the same. If the rest of the original gaskets look anything like the valve cover gaskets I changed last year, no wonder why it drips a bit.

I had an old jeep Cherokee with a stupid Peugeot 5 speed. It was a split case design and leaked everywhere, right onto some exhaust. Stunk like high hell. Took some heavy duty rubber mat and wrapped the trans with it and shoved absorbent material inside. It worked for a while, just changed the absorbent when it was full. Didn't stink anymore.

New cars don't drip.
They can. Try changing oil on most new cars nowdays. It's almost impossible to do without creating a mess. The drain plugs and oil filters aren't right out in the open.

I'm with Toolman I would be more concerned about a fire from the hot exhaust and the material, might not be flame retardant even without oil on it. A few drips of oil, no big deal to me, for a short time but it definitely needs fixed.

I like using cat litter to clean up messes in the driveway. Grind it in good with your feet, sweep it up, and you'd never know there was a leak.

Oh LITTER....... I have been grinding the cats into the oil spot. No wonder they run when I get near them

I think you might have misunderstood AGAIN.
What do they call a bunch of kittens?

Uh huh.:D

Well it shouldn't be hard to find one as I believe NHRA rules are going to mandate ballistic diapers. Mostly to contain BB Chebbies after doing what they do best! They are very
fire retardant/resistant..........

We don't even use oil-dry at the dealership anymore, parts keeps a stack of absorbent mats, they're 18"sq.... not sure which brand, work well. PIG MAT was an early brand
doing apps for containment around small tanks as well as spills, I just ask for puppy-pads at the parts counter...................................................

I had a jeep Cherokee that had a constant slow drip. I actually kind of liked it because I would have to add a quart every week. That kept the oil nice and fresh the entire time I owned it. I would just change the filter every once in a while. That damn thing had just shy of 300,000 miles on the original bearings and oil pump. It was running like a top when I sold it.

back in the day, running a hemi super stocker , we discovered a front trans seal leak in the second round. we borrowed a kotex from ???? and tied it to the outer front cover bolts on the 727. we sent a friend to the store to buy a box of the pads, we ran the car for 2 weeks that way, changed it every round. think we might have won one race that way !

My friend owns a Front End shop, and he calls the bottom pan on a Mercedes a diaper. Rich people hate oil spots on their carpeted garage floors. Chargers, Challengers have diapers also. What a pain to change oil. But, maybe you could adapt one for your car?

You leaking motor oil or tranny fluid?
  1. If it's tranny fluid, it's most likely the front seal behind the torque converter. Not a 10 minute job but can be done on a Saturday for sure....
  2. If it's motor oil, it could be the rear main seal, which you'd be pulling the motor. But, could be an easy fix like the oil pressure sender. Or valve covers. Or distributor O-ring. Or rear intake gasket (somebody did put a 4bbl on it)

I spent years fixing the transmission leak. When I finally plugged the Neutral Saftey switch hole the leak stopped. I bought a few NSS and they leak thru the center of the switch not around the threads.

I think I found the cause of the oil leak. will let you inow in a couple days if I am correct
