Got a question for you guys. I am rebuildng my 340 engine and when I reinstalled my timing chain it was very sloppy, the chain has more play than I am comfortable with. When I rebuilt my 440 it was tight. I ordered my rebuild kit after the machinist told me the over bore on the motor, crank and rods. So I am very concerned with the timing chains being so loose. I've even ordered another timing chain set from another vender and got the same results. Is this a problem or is this the norm for the 340s? Thanks in advance Tony

The engine was probably linebored. Thats when the caps to the crank go on the engine block and they bore out the crank journal to make it right. This shortens the distance to the cam. You end up with a loose chain even when it's new.

The fix would be a MoPar timing chain tensioner. There cheap and it takes up the slack. OE on Magnum engines. You can get one @ Mancini racing.

As rumblefish said, but damn someone must have really took alot of meat off that block to make it very sloppy. What is the deck height like on your pistons? because it will raise them up also a little.
