msd 8910 tach adaptor with mp dist

-
What kind of tach are you using to need that adapter? All of our stuff has 6ALs in them with with distributors ranging from the pro billet to stock mopar and I converted all of them to the msd plug for the distributor just in case I needed to take one from one car to make another run in a hurry it'd be plug and play with no screwing around(like between rounds) We use a monster tach of one model or another in all our junk and dont use a tach adapter of any kind, or are you using a stock tach?

Which sun tach is it, is it two pcs with a sending unit and a tach or does it just have the 4 wires coming out of it, or is it a sun tach 2?

No transmitter with this one

Sorry bout not getting back to you last night, I'm still not convinced you need that tach adapter if theres four wires coming out of it? Does it not work now? Usually it's red to power, black to ground, brown or green to the coil(or coil output on the msd box, if this is what you have done and it's not reading out of the coil output of the msd box lemme know and I'll tell you how to make that work) and blue or yellow to the dimmer or what have you, I hook my tach light up to my running light because I always drive with them on(i like the way it looks) Lemme know.

Just got back from the machine shop here(friends of mine and fellow mopar junkies but alot older than me so I figured they would know more about it) they both seem to think that the adapter is needed, if so what is the exact issue? what wires to tie into or what wires go where or??? and what msd box do you have, I have a msd book that has diagrams for bout every combo of components they make being used together so I should be able to figure it out.
Lemme know,

The signal out of the tach port on the MSD has a wave form that many tachs do not work or work correctly with, that is the reason for the tach adapter. The number of wires on the tach has nothing to do with it. The MSD instructions has info on which brand tachs typically work without the adapter and which ones require it.

Doesn't make any difference what you are using for a distributor either. If your MSD ignition is connected correctly and the engine runs the adapter does not interfere/modify that wiring.

I don't remember the wire colors for the tach adapter (if you don't have the instructions you can down load them from the MSD site).

Basically the tach output on the MSD ignition box connects to the input on the adapter and the tach will connect to the output of the adapter. The adapter also needs switched 12 volts and ground. With an MSD ignition the tach will never connect to the coil or distributor.

But before buying the adapter I would try your tach connected directly to the tach output on the MSD box and see if it works without it.
