Finally underway! It'll be a two story 24x24 with electricity. Wish it was bigger but this is all the county/property will allow.

Sweet! Two stories is the way to go, plus 12 foot ceilings on the first level if possible so you can use a lift or stacker(s).

sounds great, I admit. having that extra height will be great for a lift, and storage. upstairs for the "dog hose" never hurts either.

I would have trouble with someone telling me what I could build on myown property. must be why I live in the sticks.

my only advise is tall enough for a lift.you may be young and not need it now,but trust me on this you will thank youself a thousand times down the road

Lift? YES!
Need it now? You may think not but you will use it...... A LOT!

Congrats and best of luck with it.

Good luck with garage.
Cut the trees down before you build.

Nice! Put in two lifts, so if you've got one car partly disassembled on the lift, you don't have to do the other car on jack stands :)

So jealous. I need to bump the garage project up higher on the boss/wifes to do list.

Welcome to the Madness !! Congrats on the Garage. Keep the pics comin !!

Footer poured and low wall set up. Can't wait for the floor to be poured, it'll be 4" 5000psi. Ceilings will unfortunately only be 10ft, I'll have to ask about 12ft. As much as I'd like some lifts they'll probably have to wait for the next garage. :(

It's 2 ft. And a CMU wall. They can do it, don't wait for the next one that never comes!

Hey!!!!

Before they pour the floor - consider something like this - I was just trying to figure out how to do a removable mount for a tubing bender (that could also be for a vise, or whatever you need a sturdy mount for), and thought - crap, I should've put some receivers in the garage floor - googled a bit and this guy did it up nice (see pics) - you may want to put at least one of these in. Then, you just mount your tool (or a table for multiple tools - bender, vise, whatever) on some 2" x 2" tube and voila - solid tool stand

I'm going to go back in and drill holes for 'cement in' anchors, but I'll have to bolt/unbolt the equipment every time I want to use it, rather than just drop it in (unless anybody's got a clever idea for a flush mount bracket that I haven't come up with or seen someone else has done on google?)

Put in lots of plug ins even if you dont have enough electrical equipment, install at least 1 220 volt outlet for welder/ compressor. when you run underground counduit for your electrical from the house put in an extra conduit with a fish wire for future add ons. plan a plug in in the ceiling where you might put a overhead garage door opener. run wiring for extra lights in the future and speaker wire, even if you don't have it yet. Easier to do these things before.
install all your walk in doors to swing out so you don't loose any interior space. Put two by sixes between studs for mounting future cabinets etc. plan plan and execute.

plumb in gas even if you dont hook it up, get a mid or high effecient furnace and hand sideways from the ceiling so you dont loose space.

this is how I got room for lift. I blocked three blocks high anchored into slab and poured them solid. I had trusses built like tray ceiling to make center bay tall enough for lift. Shop is 36X40 with 10' wide doors. Have 12'X40' upstairs. I can wash it out without getting wood wet.

I've also heard there is some sort of epoxy they can put in the expansion joints that makes it easier to roll your creeper/engine dolly/tranny jack/etc. around the garage - wish I'd looked into that more

Congrats, don't write off the lift just yet I just found one from a member for 700! One other thing I wish I did was put a couple of recessed d rings in for pulling things like frames or sheetmetal. Do plenty of outlets on the walls. I have one every 8 feet and wish I had more. You will love it!

Hey a sump drain could be a great thing in the winter also. Wish I had something to catch the snow when it melts off the cars.

We have a floor and some walls. Hopefully this good weather holds out.
