Mystery piece out of front seat belt buckle?

was curious if someone could tell me what it is and where it goes, one of my front buckle covers broke and this piece came out, cant tell where it came from

I believe it is where tightens against the webbing look for a slot on the side of the buckle
 
Thats the bar that locks the belt. Kinda works like a one way clutch. You sure its out of that one and not a different latch?
 
Im pretty sure, the cover broke and it was laying on the seat, cant figure out where it goes. I took the cover off one of the other buckles and didnt see that piece
 
in your photo #2 is the bar under the webbing flat? my 67 is round and knurled

Maybe it has been in there from day one not doing anything?
 
That bar is round and knurled. Its weird i dont see where that piece could go, its too narrow to fit in the rear part of the buckle. And where the buckle tapers in the front theres only one spot that looks like its wide enough for but doesnt fit
 
What about the backwards "C" shaped part of the buckle near your thumb in Photo #1. could it be part ot the cover?
 
I suppose it could be, ill have to look, if it does not sure on the correct orientation. The other buckle that i took the cover off of doesnt have it but operates fine
 
Ok im looking at a buckle I have here and the cover is chipped. I can see the bar in there.The function of it is not apparent. Looks like maybe its just a stop to keep the button from hitting the plastic cover.

Pic 1 of post 3. The bar goes in the cover and rests on those black spring steel pieces. Just to the left of the edge of the button.
 
Thanks so much everyone, huh i wonder why it would even need it, the one i took apart had been cracked before and that piece wasnt in there.

If you get a chance could you post a pic?
 
If it comes loose, that's why they crack. The covers are very hard to get off intact.
