i need a 4th gear tranny to replace my 727 or new gears for her. is there a aod tranny that will bolt up and replace this 727 gas mileage killing me in this 360 dually

The only way to make a meaningful difference in fuel mileage in any dually is called a Cummins!!

Of course, a 518 auto would be a big help with the overdrive.

Maybe it will increase MPG, what gears does it have.............

What year, what gears, what tires, pickup, ext cab? 4x4???

Trucks are my thing.

85 streamline 350 thinking 456 gears not sure 360 motor i can light them 4 tires all up mabe to much motor at 90 im pulling 4g

4000 at 90 would be 3:54's I think. Check and make sure, if you do have 3.54's, OD will make it worse. 4.56 gears, with 235/85/16's would be 3000 at 52mph about.

Usually the 85 360 a a complete turd and won't light duallies up.

According to my calculator if it is running 4000 rpm at 90 mph it has 4.10 gears. That is assuming the tires size is in fact 235/85/16... Not positive if I did it right with the calculator but if I did swapping in a A518 will drop the 60 mph rpm to approx. 2000 rpm and the 90 mph to rpm to approx. 2900.. An A518 is not a cheap trans. and the rest of the stuff to install it ads up too. Not really sure if you'd be ahead by installing one. $2000 for an OD trans. install will sure go a long way on buying gas. Do you plan on keeping it a long time?

BTW: Where do you get to run 90 mph?

I20 interstate i live next to track here in AL interstate main route

and its not the original engine come by ill light them up for you lol

ill crawl under it and see gear. and i am keeping my sweptline dodge it just makes you feel good to drive might take it to the other side when i go lol

What you need to do is to buy my 85 Power Ram Crew cab....

418" of killer power with the trailer on the back and still pull off a better 0 to 60 then the officer with the highway car, as long as you don't break loose....
7 forward speeds.... better mpg then a new unmolested 6.7

4.10's, selectable lockers, the best of everything...R/T hood

You can Scare, Climb, Pull, Drag, Push whatever...whenever

Or my Cummins.........

350-400HP, 700-750 pounds of TQ, and will still get 20MmpG on the highway, idle at .030 GPH, and bumper pull Supershafts truck up a 12% grade with his trailer faster than his truck could pull his trailer........

LOL

To the OP.

It is a toss up with your OD making it get better MPG, ezpecially if you have ANY cam in it at all..... MOST "RV" type small blocks running loaded like to cruise about 2800-3200RPM, cam range in the 250-270 range. It's just where they like it, and where they are made to run. In a dually, even if it was stock, under 2400 or so, it will have a hard time getting good MPG.

I am taking out the 727 in my 74 dually, and putting an old 540 or whatever it is, (OD 5sp from the mid 60's with a short 5th) in, at 3000RPM (thats where MY 4:10 gear 235/85/16 truck is spinning at 60MPG) will drop it about 400RPM. Thats about right for the 4" stroke 318. The 518's OD is WAY too steep, I think.

IMO, you have two things working against you.

360
Dually

And you still haven't told us what the MPG is............
