I'm helping a friend with a project - 1969 Barracuda with a non-stock 340. This is a street strip car that belonged a third person who died and left his half done project to my friend. Good news is that it came with a complete set of M&H wiring that M&H updated for a 70 and up voltage regulator and electronic ignition. The harness has 2 field wires for the alternator. It is wired for a 4 connection ballast resistor. I think this all jives and now calls for a 70 and up alternator to complete this system. Do I have this right as far as matching the harness, alternator, voltage regulator and ignition system??? Since it isn't my car, it seems to me that an abundance of caution is appropriate. The new owner of the car is in his mid to late 70s and I don't want to strand him somewhere.

Very correct.

Choose parts for a 70 up Dart or Valient and what ever size engine block it has.

The biggest issue is going to be down the road when someone goes to replace the Alternator and orders one for a 69 and hooks up the wires and shorts out the VR or the wiring.

The rebuilders are modifying isolated field alternators by grounding one terminal. Unfortunately they leave just enough of a tab that you can put a connector on it.
