I have a 1973 Plymouth duster 340 that was recently swapped to a 318 with a set of hooker headers. There is no other exhaust on at the moment. Never worked with exhaust before and I need the best way to remove the driver side headers to get to the starter for replacement

At the very worst you should have to loosen I had her at the had and maybe at The collector but you shouldn't have to take it completely off.
My highest recommendation is to go to the Pick-n-Pull and get a starter off of a mid-90s truck...

If you break the steering components apart, could you sneek it out that way? It looks like that you may have enough room.

My 75 has a 318 with what looks like the same headers and I remember being able to get the starter out of there without having to loosening the drivers side. It’s been too long for me to tell you exactly how it came out, but you might try dismounting it and experimenting a bit.

It might come out, if you loosen it, and with the car sitting on jack-stands, turn the steering all the way to the side.
This may give you enough room to drop it out.

Thanks to everyone trying to help. Every bit of advice is appreciated
if you've never done this, be careful that starter is heavy and awkward, it may take some twisting and turning to get it out without loosening the header and even then there is a chance that it won't go ~ IIRC depending on the headers they are tight, hell the mini can be a #$%^&* to remove

A guy paid me $120 to put his starter in a 68 Camaro. He reported he had a nightmare of a time getting it out and was not even interested in thinking about trying to get one back in there. I went there looked at it so can you turn the steering wheel all the way to the right? I slipped it right on there no problem. LOL needless to say he was not happy but he was happy LOL..

imagine you've already done this but make sure you take the negative off the battery LOL you may get a shocking experience if you don't..
