I am going to restore it for my son, but I want to upgrade with new stuff. Like 6.1L hemi, road race suspension, upgraded dash with my own gauges, new interior, and mini tub for some 17x12 wheels.

Anyone done anything similar? If so, do you have pictures?

I am sure you will hear from those who have done these mods to their cars but I was just wondering if you would have any issues with adopting an adult child ... and build him something similar? ;-)

LOL!! I told my wife I was only going to spend 10 to 15k. I am sure when it is all said and done I will have a lot more.

I already have a 94 Supra with 25k in it and a twin turbo 99 C5 FRC... Now it is time to hook up my son b4 I start modding my truck.. LOL!! Here is my vette..

Hopefully sometime next year I can get my Supra in one of the import mags..

I also told my wife this will be a 15 year project. I will be done way b4 then. :toothy10:

I'm sure you know what's best, but I hope you aren't doing that for his first car.

You think that's too much? I dont plan on it making more than 450 at the wheels. I will have him go through several driving courses b4 he actually drives the car. I know kids will be kids, but locally I have noticed the ones that hurt themselves are given high powered cars w/out any training. I plan to have him well trained with all the supporting safety mods.. He will have a roll cage in the car and all the other safety bells and whistles. First time he gives me the impression he is a hot dog the car becomes mine and he will end up in a honda civic....

Sounds like a cool project, and yeah, I'll bet you spend much, much more than projected.
Are you doing everything yourself including paint and body?
Body and paint is pretty expensive now days unless you find an alcoholic paint sniffer to do it on the side between drinks and whiffs, ha, ha.
Kidding, but make sure you get everything in writing to the smallest detail and get a solid agreed price even if the body shop tells you they can't do that.
Tell him that's the only way you will agree to it and you will just find someone who will.
As far as thinking your Son will not hotdog the car, you are dreaming.

I know i would with that much power under my seat, and I don't know any kid that would not push it when dad is not around.

I'd definitely let him drive something else to get some experience before dropping him into a street machine.

I am going to send him to driving school. Whether it is a honda civic or a hotrod if he is going to try to go fast when I am not around I think he will do it regardless. Atleast the Barracuda will have the stopping power, roll cage, etc., to protect him if he makes a mistake.

LOL at the concept of a 40 yr old anything being safer than todays anything.

Um, I am 47 and I think I'd have trouble behaving with 450 hp at the wheels. If I had a car like that when I was young I probably wouldn't be here today.

I think I was 20 (and about 11 months) when I bought my T5 4 speed runner. But one of the first cars that was mine to drive was a 65 Fury III with a 383 and a 727 with A/C, luggage rack, and that lovable rear facing 3rd seat
