Hello,
I have a 1969 barracuda with a 451ci big block. I was thinking about putting a hemi in between the fenders. Whats the best way to go? Get a older desoto hemi(341,345), old dodge ram hemi(331,354,392), or just go for broke and put a 426 hemi in. I'm looking for the easiest and cheapest installation if there is one??? Also looking for go not all show. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff

Welcome aboard Jeff. It sounds like you already have a pretty healthy power plant under that hood. :thumblef: I don't know how much "go" you'd pick up with any of the older hemis compared to your 451, so the 426 would be my choice if going for power. Having said that, you could coax quite a few extra horses out of that 451, and save yourself a lot of headaches doing the installation, for the cost of a hemi. :)

hello and welcome to this bord!
it seems like you already have a powerfull barracuda but want more
i would go for a 426 any day if i could aford it and with the right parts it will have lots of go in it!
i also think the 426 is "easier" to put in an Abody since there was a few of them built with the 426 and there is some suport from the aftermarket in puting the 426 into A bodys:)

Thanks for welcome and the input. You're right the 451 engine is a great power plant. I take my car to lots of car shows during the summer and was looking for something you don't see around here to much. Namely a hemi under the hood. But being used to the 451, i didn't want to go through all the hassle of putting one of these hemi's in my car and have no get up and go. So i thought i would pick all your brains a little bit and see what would be the easiest and cheaper way to get the best worlds. Jeff

Well my buddy has a 67 383 Cuda and we decided that he wants my brother and I to build a Hemi to put in his 67 Cuda. We are checking on parts prices now. But we feel its worth it to just go and build the 528 Hemi as it really wont cost much more then the 426 build. So I will be looking into all the little details for this combo. He wants us to keep the 4-speed so I am looking into a hydraulic clutch setup also. I myself would go with the 426 style Hemi as the parts will be easier to get parts for then the old style Hemi.
