The set on my car now is of unknown make. Only #s stamped on them is 9437. Nothing turns up on my searches. Anyone have any Ideas what these might be.
Looking to replace these with some different type that might fit better, these hang to low on the drivers side and drag and hit everything. Looking to not break the bank on a new set, don't need the $500 -$ 600 ones. Just some less expensive drivers. Cheapies ! if there is such a thing anymore. My car is a 67 Barracuda ,4 speed, manual steering and brakes. Any recommendations on some that you have on your car and like the fit and Quality would be helpful, as would the I D of what my current ones are , so I don't get the same kind. I'll post some pics of what I have , ASAP.
Thanks for any help !
:usflag: :thankyou:

I have about 3 3/4" ground clearance on the driver side. Passengers side is fine.

Sad news is , it's the expensive ones that don't drag themselves along on the ground, and they fit better.
Maybe try a set of shorties.

I hear Dougs fit nice. TTI's too but quite spendy. You get what you pay for. What engine are you running?

You are gonna pony up for Doug's or TTI or find the cheapest hang low garbage ya can find and use those.

Doug's, and TTi's are about the same cost, and their fitment is about the same. You can reduce some of the expense by sidestepping ceramic coating, Nickel plating; yes they look nice but they do add to the cost. In the end it's your car and your money, do what makes you happy.

Autozone carries Doug's and if you signup for their emails, every now and then they have a 20% off sale that makes the price a lot more palatable. TTI, unless you find a used set are going to be full fare. Shorties on a milder engine won't hurt performance much.

Shorties might be the best way for me to go. Tired of messing with headers on a street car. Just gonna be a daily driver. Although it does run pretty good ,not looking for peak performance.

In that case, get some 340 exhaust manifolds. Everything fits better and easier maintenance.

The good original hi-po 340 manifolds are almost as much as Doug's headers, $400-500. The later ones are cheaper I think, but probably not as cheap as shorties.

While genuine 340 manifolds work reasonably well, their cost and availability makes them iffy, might be cheaper/easier to do shorties

Doug's hang pretty low on the driver's side of my 66 Barracuda 5.9. I didn't hit anything for awhile, then forgot about them and went too fast over a speed bump. Bam!! Scared the crap out of the wife!!

i had a small block challenger a few years back that i lowered too much. the headers were 1 3/4" off the floor. i welded a 1/4" thick sacrificial steel skid plate to the k member that went back under the header tubes. now i had 1 1/4" to the floor but my new headers were safe . the car was my daily by the way
neil.

I just saw a pair listed on here for $250.

My oldest son and I just put dougs on his 71 valiant. He said he is going to join the FABO and post pics. He took pics of ground clearance before/after.

And summit will match their sale price. :)

Put some shims between the motor mount and k frame bring the engine up 3/8” and put the tallest front tire on you can like 215/70. May gain an 1” or. so. Looks like you have a low profile tire on it now. Looks like a fun car.

i just did the same thing looking n looking . then saved my bucks and bought tti's through hemidenny's company here he save me the shipping , and these will never have tobe replaced . one time buy . i'm 65 years young now was not looking forward to replacing those headers in ten years at 75 years old , lol .

if you can wait you will be able to get the Dougs at a decent price, it will be more than the cheapos, unfortunately you may or may not have a minor issue with clearance but the overall quality is awesome. I did not in any way want to spend the money but I decided money vs dragging the ground - Im still working on my exhaust but when you look across the bottom of my car you won't be wondering if its giving some kind of alien metal birth or something is wrong and about to fall off. my 02 worth

Maybe try a set of shorties.

I put a set of cheap headers on a 73 Duster 340 back in the late seventies. Had to use a BFH on a couple tubes to make them fit, the thin flanges warped and leaked at the head mounting surface, and the driver's side hung down below the tie rods enough to scrape the ground every now and then. But it sure ran a lot better - totally stock except for a spread-bore Holley, the headers were worth three-quarters of a second in the quarter all by themselves.

Many years later, I put a set of cheap headers on my stepson's 73 Duster 340. Like all cheap headers, the driver's side hung down. He knocked a hole in them in two weeks.

So I stuck to 68-70 340 hi-po manifolds when I swapped a 360 into my 67 Barracuda. Drove it that way for 20 years. But in 2012 I took a chance on TTI's reputed quality and replaced the factory manifolds with TTI's. What a difference! Fit was amazing, installation was easy-peazy, everything cleared, they didn't hang down, they didn't rattle and they didn't leak. Plus, they made so much more power than the stock manifolds I had to switch the rear tires to drag radials because I got tired of going sideways whenever I gave it full throttle anywhere in low gear.

PS: I sold the hi-po manifolds for enough money to pay for the headers. (Still had to pay for the TTI X-pipe exhaust, though.)

You have to decide for yourself. Me - I think TTI's are worth the money. (Can't speak to Doug's, as I have not tried them.)
