Need some help decoding 833 PLEASE...

I rushed and bought this 833, not knowing VIN # and what it came out of, he just said it came out of an A-body. Iam installing it into a 69Dart.

Tailshaft- C99126-1
Transmission- 4B2973980? not sure with the 0

Those numbers don't make much sense as you have already found. The numbers are on the passenger side of the case. and 1968 was the first year to have the raised boss for the VIN and serial #. 833's between 62 and 74 (as far as my book goes) have numbers between 2400238 and 3780234 but 2973980 isn't on the list.
 
OK thank you, I'll run back out and look. It does have a raised boss.

833 = trans type 4-speed
4578 = 10k assembly date code - Day 4578 is Friday, February 8, 1974
There should be 4 numbers after the 4578. That would be the build sequence number.

4B297590 is a partial VIN
4 = 1974
B = Hamtramck assembly plant
297590 = Sequential production number

the numbers on the retainer and tail are casting numbers, helps identify the 4 different retainers and approx. 4 different tails, covering a range of years. the 4B297590 is the last 8 of the vin, 4 is 1974, B is the Hamtramck plant. 4578 is date based on a 10,000 day calender, so Feb./?/1974
 
could this 833 be an early OD A833, being its from 1974 possibly installed in 75?
Its a cast iron housing
