I just put the /6 out of a 74 valiant in my 66 and am having issues with the motor mounts. The engine seems to sit too high and too far back in the bay.I am using the mounts that came with the car but dont know if they were the right ones or not.I was also told that it sits too close to the right side.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you put the adaptor on the crank? The 2 years are compatable. You must change out the oil pan and oil pickup for the 66 as well. Other wise it will hit the cross member.
When you have done these 3 things it should line right up.

Are you using the metal motor mount brackets, that bolt to the engine, from the 66 or a newer engine. You must use the 63-66 engine brackets and insulators (rubber). If I remember right the 74 used the throught bolt mounts, but the 67-72 or 73 used the biscuit. The 67-72 engine brackets will locate the engine too far to the rear in a 66-down car, if they will even fit the chassis at all. I have several 64-66 "A" bodies, and am working on a customers 72 "A" body, and just compared the brackets.

I have never been able to get a motor with a '67-'76 pan to sit down into my '66. It hits the K-member and drag link.

Yep, w/o the adapter in the crank you will get friendly with changing flex plates.

What does the adaptor do?I am using the brackets that came with the car but have no idea what they are out of.I have found the part numbers for the brackets but cant locate any yet.
Thanks for the replies.

The adapter is a ring that fits inside the rear bore of the crankshaft to reduce it so the smaller snout on the early converter will center in it. They are available for around $20 from www.wildcatmopars.com .

The oil pan changed in '67. If you are using the '74 oil pan there's your problem. If you still have it you will need the pan, pickup, dipstick, and tube from your old engine.

Thanks. The engine that came with the car wasnt original, so I guess I will start looking for parts.
