I have a 73 Dart Swinger that my son and I are restoring. The Torsion bars are so soft, or worn out, that going over a speed bump will bottom out the front end. I need to get a stronger replacement set and not spend $300+ for them. Can some one help? Thanks.

What was the motor in the car originally and what motor do you have in it now? Just trying to figure out what size you have in there now.

But the new 1" T-bars are like $159 shipped from just suspension. That will be significantly stiffer than stock, but will handle very nice. Not really a bad ride either.

I suspect you probably have totally worn out shocks maybe?

As autoxcuda mentions, which engine was in the car originally? Was it AC equipped?

I have a set of 892/893 340 torsion bars.

The car is a 73 Dart Swinger. It has the original 318 V8 with Factory A/C. I am not opposed to a stiffer ride and would like better cornering.

Is the ride height set to specs ??

If the front end is lowered, the spring rate goes down and you can very easily bottom the suspension.
